Question about 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1 Answer

2001 Chevy Silverado Z71 x-cab with 5.3L will cut out and die when it gets hot (temp in normal range on dash gague) after about 60 miles or so and does not want to start but will turn over. It acts like it isn't getting enough fuel but there is pressure and fuel at the fuel rail. After it cools down it will start and run fine.

It does sound like fuel. I needs at least 55 psi. You need to know exactly what the fuel pressure is.

Your car is running in the normal range. You should fill the resivoir to the fill line on the side. As long as the temp gague stays near the middle you should are ok. HIGH is bad.

I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71 truck. When I drive for more than 20 or 30 minutes with the heater on, it gets "stuck" and then blows only real hot air, even if I turn the air conditioner on high....

Do you have a hot water valve out by or on the engine usually you can tell by following the heater hoses the water valve will be in line or be coming off of the engine intake manifold, it is vacuum operated older valves can stick, try that first or if you have a vacuum gauge check to see if the vacuum bleeds off you can also manually apply vacuum and feel what the heater temperature does.

You will need to pull the dash and a bunch of other components in order to access the heater core. Getting ready to do the same repair and really not looking forward to it.

The stepping motors in the gauges go bad. do a search on ebay for CHEVY SILVERADO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER for cheaper repair options. The dealer charges around $300.00. It will continue to worsen.
