My transmission appears to be slipping from gears

I drive a 2001 dodge ram 2500 diesel. My transmission appears to be slipping from gear to gear. It was an all of the sudden thing. First time it happened I was on the interstate, and it just cut out, so I didnt know what it was at first...Just a few days later the problem severely increased in occurence, now it seems to be at all speeds, and gears, slipping back and forth, didnt know if it was some sort of sensor, or what, i dont drive more than fifteen to twenty miles a day, so in no more than sixty to seventy miles it seems like a big increase in severity for such short time. WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PIECE?

I had the same problem...there are solinoid packs on the bottom of the transmission that tell the transmission when to grab. Mine went out at 55K. Cost me over $600.00 to fix at the dealer....The part was less than $100....go to a good tranny shop.

I am the original owner of a 2001 2500 diesel, at. I pull heavy loads periodically (bobcat). Mine started slipping at hiway speed 5-6K miles ago. It seems to have gotten worse, so I haven't pulled much lately. It slips/hunts uphill and accelerating. Normally in 3rd gear and up, not at low speeds/gears. Haven't tried anything yet, just gentle driving. Someone said possibly "burn't" overdrive? I commonly towed in overdrive. Parts store said to add slip stop tranny additive. Any thoughts?

First check the level of the tranny fluid the truck needs to be running and in nutral if you have fluid it is probably the modual, the shift control modual comonly goes out the dealer will tell you you need a new transmission take your truck to a good transmission shop and have them check the modual tighten the bands and flush the transmission I had the same problem and that fixed the problem, the cost was around 350.00 also check to make sure that you dont have any leaks in your tranny lines. hope this helps

Service it. The filter might be plugged. It's a good place to start.

Dodge 2500 transmission

Lost all gears? or when you slowed down you had gears again? Just lower ones. Replace the valve body. If you lose gears and have to wait a while to get them again, rebuild or replace the transmission.

I have a 2001 2500 Dodge Ram Van with a 5.2 engine. If if do not accelerate hard, the transmission shifts fine. If I accelerate hard, the transmission seems to not want to shift until I relieve pressure...

On most of these type vehicles, with the heavy duty and lower geared transmissions this is normal, when accelerateing hard it will stay in lower gear longer...

Have someone scan the transmission for bad shift sensors.
