Question about 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Truck

1 Answer

My transmission appears to be slipping from gear to gear. It was an all of the sudden thing. First time it happened I was on the interstate, and it just cut out, so I didnt know what it was at first...Just a few days later the problem severely increased in occurence, now it seems to be at all speeds, and gears, slipping back and forth, didnt know if it was some sort of sensor, or what, i dont drive more than fifteen to twenty miles a day, so in no more than sixty to seventy miles it seems like a big increase in severity for such short time. WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PIECE?

If it's an electronic transmission, it may be helpful to scan the vehicle for any transmission codes.
BTW, what's the Year/Make/Model of your car?

Oh yeah, never mind, you have a 2001 Dodge Ram. Hook a scanner up to that puppy and see if there's any codes in there for the transmission. Good luck!

Why does my 1995 Volvo transmission stop going into gear after it's hot?

1) How's your fluid level?

2) When did you last replace your filter?

3) When it shifted, did it go trough all the gears as you accelerate or did it just stay on one gear and never shifted?

4) How's reverse, does it slip out too after 2 - 3 min?

5) As you first able to shift into gear, you can drive it for 2 to 3 mintues and it just suddenly slip out of gear?

.... could be a number of different things. Maybe even burnt out clutche(s) inside your transmission

Yeah, that's the sign of a serious malfunction. So your first step would be to get the trouble codes read. Most likely you'll wind up at a transmission shop

I own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4WD automatic 4.0. I have been having issues with the transmission. It seems the gears are slipping at times. Last week after about 200 miles on a trip, I was...

but slips , is big deal.
check fuses
check levels
full flush it.
scan it yet, no, but if the TCM is in limphome mode
it will not shift right, so why do you skip scanning it.
what it the TCM tells you a speed sensors is borked.
why work blind.?scan it.first.
does it slip in 1st gear?

at 70mph that is called transmission flare, never a good sign that.

My 2000 VW Jetta TDI suddenly lost power on the interstate. It seemed that it took twice the RPMs to keep the same speed. Is this the turbo kicking off? At lower speeds it feels as if it does not change...

Most likely its your transmission slipping You will need to have it checked by a mechanic if the rpm is double then it has nothing to do with the turbo, if it's a automatic it means the clutches are slipping or if it's a standard it means the clutch is slipping from being worn out or the pressure plate is wore out.

I have a 1985 CJ7 6 cyl with a 5 speed manual transmission. While on the interstate in 5th gear it all of a sudden wouldn't accelerate anymore. I downshifted through all gears and it was the same. There...

Your narration is short on mechanical clues. Is the engine running "flat" or is the clutch slipping? Do you / did you smell anything when it happened?
I'd check two things...clutch and catalytic converter. If clutch is slipping it will reduce available power to the wheels. a bad cat can do that too by restricting the exhaust. Easy way to check a clutch is by driving about 25mph in third gear and floor it. If the engine responds and revs but the vehicle does not, then the clutch is bad. Otherwise, you need to do some testing to see what's going on but it can be just about anything at this point. Normally if the converter is blocked you can hear it wheezing a bit.
As I said, you didn't give enough real detail but these are my best guesses.

My transmission appears to be slipping from gears

first check the level of the tranny fluid the truck needs to be running and in nutral if you have fluid it is probably the modual, the shift control modual comonly goes out the dealer will tell you you need a new transmission take your truck to a good transmission shop and have them check the modual tighten the bands and flush the transmission I had the same problem and that fixed the problem, the cost was around 350.00 also check to make sure that you dont have any leaks in your tranny lines. hope this helps

You might want to send the transmission to flush and replace the ATF (Atomatic Transmission Fluid) and run it for a while. If it keeps the same behavior, consider replacing the clutches, as it is now a gear slipping fault, and sooner or later, you'll end up rideless. Hope this will help you.
