I believe chevrolet has a recall on this problem having to do with wiring repair at the tank.

Common problem on that model chevy. Check the fuel regulator to make sure is not leaking. Allow it to run for a few minutes and shut it off then pull the vacuum line off of it. If there is fuel in there that it is leaking. If that checks out it will most likely be the fuel pump. If you cycle the key a few time then it starts fine it will be the pump

May be one of several things, most likely cause is the fuel pump, I've replaced so many fuel pumps on the Chevy trucks its crazy. Veh needs more fuel to take off then it does just cruising around you need to have a fuel gauge put on it and test drive it to see what the pressure does when it's acting up, should stay above 48-50 psi. Vehicle will run even as low as 20 PSI but it will be weak..

Common problem on the 03-06 Silverado instrument clusters for the fuel gauge to go out. It's usually caused by one of two main problems, either the stepper motor on the cluster's circuit board is going out or the sending unit on the fuel pump is going out. Fairly common problem with GM vehicles. The sending unit in your tank has a small circuit board that an arm is attached to which moves up and down according to your fuel level. This circuit board and arm are not making good contact. Unfortunately the only good solution is to replace this part.

You will have to have the dealer reset the security light to restart vehicle.Check all engine and chassie grounds because this is where the lighting would exit the vehicle. It sounds like a ground burnt through.

Fuel sensor gauge

you will need to replace the fuel level sensor.(sending unit) it is in the tank and is hooked to the fuel pump. you can buy seperatly from pump. you may finf it easier to remove the bed if you have some help. it is six or eight bolts and harness unplugs then you can get right to it.
