Why does my engine run hot and lose power when I am 4 wheeling in the mud?

Check engine fan operation and make sure radiators not packed with dirt and debris. When your on the highway you have the speed you are traveling at air cooling the radiator.

Engine starting to run hotter

Either the thermostat or perhaps electric fan are my first thoughts. I assume there's no signs of distress from the water pump, but if no leaks or noises then that's prob ok

1988 300zx turbo-automatic has intermittent sputtering. sometimes when cold in town and more recently with highway driving. Drove like 70 miles at 75 and sputtering started. Had mechanic check it out...

The famous MAF (mass airflow sensor) yours is a vane movement type this is the famous intermittent failure, here is the good new just adjust it. you dont have to relace it, the way to do it is to open the blaack cover and tension down the spring, (just a tad) this is the one of the solution. 300 zx has a proor ground problem to the MAF the fix and the solution is to get the MAF gound sensor and make a addition ground bolt it to the intake and your done. On the MAF sensor it the 3rd wire MAF ground NOT THE MAF ECM NEGATIVE connection

Run hard at 2500 rpm 96 nissan pickup 2.4 5 speed

I had a similar problem mine would hit a rev limiter at 3500 rpms. it would blow black sut out of the tail pipe. Ended up being mass air flow sensor/valorem sensor. almost 500.00 from nissan. fixed it though.
