More than likely in need of some penetrating spray on mechanisms & handle, insides. But .... have to get it open for that. Did you try pushing in and pulling at same time. Try spraying lubricant, or preffered penetrating spray (WD_40 or similar) down along side where it latches on the side to the pins, in between gate & fender, in gap that is there, and give it a little time to work in. Stick red nozzle of can in key hole to and spray also. Try to get it up under and inside of handle.

How to fix my rear tailgate window

check the fuse/relay. if it is neither of these check the switch with a multimeter. If you can hear the motor trying to move the glass when you try the switch it may be the regulator needs attention. It may be the motor needs to be replaced.

check fuse and relay along with the switch first then the regulator and motor afterwards. Replacing the small electronics is obviously easier than having to open up the tailgate to check the mechanics of the winedow.

I have a 1989 Chevy Suburban 1500. its a 5.7, but i can not find a certain switch for the tailgate. The switch makes it so the tailgate window can roll up and down, but no dealer or shop sells it.

i got an extra one. i was at a pick n pull n scrounged out some extra parts that i might need if anything were to go wrong on my truck. throw me an e-mail at loismustdie5@msn.com. i wont b needing it. because mine works fine. but btw im sure you can use just any 2 way toggle switch. as long as it's not like an on/off switch// good luck

the handle and linkage needs to be greased , unscrew the plate on the inside of the tailgate, so you can see the handle ,spray with penetrating oil , keep moving the handle and linkage until it moves freely

Tailgate will not open; handle will not move

Either ,something is binding inside the tailgate, or broken.
You can get to the mechanism from the inside panel of the tailgate-- by
removing the screws that down the inside panel.
Once you remove the panel you should be able to open the tailgate by
pulling on the thin cable to unlatch the latches from both ends of the tailgate and a good look at the handle mechanism will tell you what wrong.
Good Luck.

2001 frontier tailgate won't open

Remove the inner pannel. Then move the handle the connecting rod from the handle to the lock will move. Then pull or push the connecting rod helping the handle. When you get it open move the handle again if it moves freely then most likely the catch needs adjusting to adjust loosen the screws aroung the catch on the rear pannel move the catch out a little try closing the tailgate if it takes undue force to close then repeat moving the catch out until it is easy to shut simple rule is if it is hard to close then it will be hard to open! Leave the inner pannel off until you can easily open the tailgate with the handle as you may have to give the handle a helping hand to open until you have finished adjusting.

The tailgate latch on our 2006 Chevy truck is in the open positio

there are little metal rods that connect to the handle of the tailgate, just like the rods that connect your door handles to the door hinges and lock mechanism. just pop off the plastic cover over the tailgate handle and check and see if the rods are still connected to the handle.

Lock on Tailgate will not release

Try checking that the handle in the tailgate returns to the 'open' postion. Once in a while, usually during/after the winter, the tailgate handle gets stuck in the 'pressed in' postion. I have to use WD-40 or some other lubricant to get the handle working again, which allows me to unlock and open the tailgate.

2003 Ford Explorer back door latch will not open

Mine just did the exact same thing. The latch may be moving freely because it is not hooked to the latching mechanism anymore. In my case, the handle had broken where the handle hooks to the rod that operates the mechanism. Go to the Ford dealer and buy a new handle. Here in S.C. it was $24. You can't get this at the parts houses. Start by removing the plastic "Ford" cover that is over the liscense plate lights. You then have to remove the aluminum rivets that hold the handle to the tailgate from the outside and remove the broken latch. Remove the pull handle loop on the interior side of the tailgate (2 screws), unsnap the inside plastic tailgate interior panel, and pull down the black plastic sheeting that is underneath the panel to make access to the mechanism inside of the tailgate. There is also a hard plastic cover that you will see that needs to be pulled loose to open another access hole. Install the new tailgate latch handle by sliding back into the mounting holes and attach with two 10-32 screws and nuts. The new handle will come with a new yellow rod attachment piece on the handle. You will see inside of the tailgate a small rod hanging down, most likeky it will have the same rod attachment piece as the one on the new handle. Note the position of the yellow piece on the rod, as you will connect the new piece in the same place. Once the rod is hooked up, relubricate the metal mechanism with a light machine oil, replace the black plastic cover, replace the black plastic sheeting, (secure with a small amount of duct tape), replace the tailgate interior panel, replace the pull handle loop, shut tailgate, replace "Ford" cover over lights, and you're done!
