Air Bag Sensor light on & horn not working

I have a 2003 tacoma prerunner SR5. Some work was done on chassis after which only my airbag sensor light was coming on. However, now my horn is not working. What could be wrong?I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima and it is a rebuilt car. There is nothing wrong with the car except for two things. The air bag light stays on and the horn does not work. I had an auto body shop run the car under the scanner and it said that there were not any air bags in the car. If the air bag light is on will it show on the machine that there is no air bags in it when there actually are air bags in the car but the air bags are just not going to work properly?

First check your fuses to make sure none are blown, then I would check your clock spring, this is what allows you to turn the steering wheel and still retain electrical connection between the steering wheel and the steering column.

Do your airbags need resetting?
if work was done would it have acted like an accident?
i know systems shut done after the airbags have been deployed and it needs to be reset after fitting new bags.
your horn may just be a blown fuse.

How you change horn pad at the strewing wheel

You remove the airbag first ,two screws/allen headed /torx headed screwqs on the back of the steering wheel ,this is a specialised job and dangerous so disconnect the battery first to stop the air bag from going off ,or better still take it to a mechanic

Installed new rack ,have air bag light on

The steering wheel needs to be prevented from rotating when it is disconnected from the steering linkage. The airbag system uses a rotational sensor that is just below the steering wheel mounted airbag. (Often called a clock-spring)
I suspect is was damaged during your repair.
The airbag fault codes need to be read to confirm.
Good luck.

Airbag sensor lights up and horn not working

you need to go to this site, http://www.airbagsolutions.com/contact.aspx and ask them how to pin your air bage module to get the trouble code it is the cheepest way and if you can't do that then you will have to take it to a mechanic at $60.00 for hook up, these guys charge $17.00 to help you figure outthe problem, and every car is different thats why I don't know how to pin it out.so do that and it will tell you if it is a serious problem or something that you can just clear the code.

My airbag light and horn not working on my crysler voyager 1997

hey guys with problems with the air bag lights on and horn not working in Chrysler Voyager...

this is the problem with the steering wheel clockwork spring. The connector that brings the wires from the steering wheel instruments (hord, airbag, cruise control) and takes it through the steering column to the car body but allows steering wheel to rotate without breaking the wires. The dealer should have adivised you that there is a life long warrantly from manufacturer of this part. There was a recall notice issued by Chrysler in 2003/4 to bring in car for replacement of part if the Airbag light came on. I got mine done last year under the recall.

Air Bag Sensor light on & horn not working

Without knowing exactly what the air bag code is, coupled with the known fact that the horn is inoperative, my opinion for a viable solution is to replace the spiral cable or, as commonly called, the "clockspring". This device is the main wiring connection between the steering wheel and the wiring harness. If the circuit(s) open, due to a failure of the spiral cable, the air bag light will be on, the horn will not work, and , if you have a steering wheel Cruise control, it too may be inoperative. Best solution: replace the clockspring. Best advice: Get the airbag DTC's checked, and if you have an open in the driver side air bag circuit, the clockspring is def the culprit. Given that you had chassis work, your DTC just may be the front crash sensor, and the horn may just be unplugged, or bad, This is the best I can do for you, given the info that you have provided,
Hope this helps, and thanks for choosing FixYa.
