well first you want to make sure the linkage is tight it might say its in drive but on the trans it might not be pushing the lever and or if electronic faulty sensor also check fluid color is it bright reddish if so thats good if its really dark and smells burnt probably somthing internally wrong you may also have clogged trans filter
LOOK UNDER RIGHT SIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL NEAR THE EVAPORATOR AREA.LOOK FOR A AIR FILTER DOOR LATCH.SLIDE IT TOWARD REAR OF THE VECHICLE.THEN REMOVE AIR FILTER.DISABLE AIRBAG, YOU ARE WORKING AROUND A AIRBAG AREA.TURN OFF RADIO.THEN REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY.WAIT 15 MINUTES TO AIRBAG DISCHARGE.THEN REMOVE FILTER.THEN RECONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE YOU DONE.
I'm not sure where it is exactly on your car but they are usually under the grid between the windshield and hood. should be a couple of bolts or screws that you remove and take cover off to expose the filter. Be sure to clean out the box be fore you put new filter in.
