Question about 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan

Gauges not working - no temp, odometer, gas, etc

I have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan. One day I went out and started it up and I didn't have power to the instrument panel. I have no gas gauge, temp, speedometer, odometer, etc. It starts fine and seems to be running fine but still nothing in the panel. Any suggestions?

I tested the fuses - they are fine.

This happens to my van all the time. Usually all I have to do is shut it off, wait about 5 minutes and then start it back up and it's fine again. I have no idea why it happens but every once in a while it does. Hope this helps!

Same problem; tried the fuses. Going to try and see if the connections lose, but I doubt it. Probably need a new PCM like the guy below stated.

    have u tested the fuses?

I changed all the fuses that has to do with the instrument cluster and the speedometer and rpm gauges still don't work so I took the instrument cluster out of my vehicle to see if it was the cluster itself

Hello, I had the same problem and found the solution is the instument cluster ground is weak. You have to remove it and where the main wire is soldiered to the electrical board you need to resoldier that pin where it goes into the board. the reason the gauges go dead is they loose the ground contact within the layers of the board. When you get the gauge cluster out, remove the screws that mount the board to the housing and pull it off. It is pressed on to pins that ecectricly operat the gauges so remove the board staight off and back on after resoldiering the pin. I can't remember which one it is, the first or the last.

I would try the fuses first but if that dosent work try checking the connection between the cluster and the fuse box perhaps it fell outa place.

The clockspring recall is probably the issue. Have you had the clockspring replaced? If not, take it to the dealer and have them replace it. If you bring it in while the guages are out they may try too have you replace the PCM but ask for the clockspring first.

For 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan, instrument clusters with light when ignition turn on, but there's no crank and no start. Battery just changed five months ago

I have a similar problem. Do you also notice the gauges on the instrument panel going out from time to time? (Have to slap the dashboard.) I have been told the start problem is related to a problem with the instrument panel (a control unit contained therein). I have found at times turning the key to the ON position for a few seconds (odometer lights stabilize) before moving to the START position sometimes helps.

Unfortunately, replacing the instrument cluster/control unit can cost up to $600-700. I am not a mechanic, but have inquired about this for my own Caravan. Good luck.

Dashboard gauges dont work, 1998 dodge caravan

These vehicles seem to have a problematic short, my grandfather has the same vehicle with the same problem, i found the short under the carpet on the driver side of the vehicle, under the gas pedal, sometimes wires can crack and break.

All gages dont work

I had the same problem and noticed when I went on a bumpy road that the gauges started working again. It is a short in the wiring because if you hit on the instrument panel with your hand the gauges will work again.
