No back-up lights on an 2002 Grand Cherokee 4.7L w/ 545RFE

I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee.. 4.7L w/ 545RFE Auto transmission. When i put it in reverse i get no back-up lights. From what i get these transmissions use a Trans. Range sensor that mounts above the valve body. It will only start in Park and Neutral . Could that be the problem. No trouble code is showing up on a OBD II scanner. also below the odometer is the is the following A / S 1 2 3 4 5 ... These look like the should light up but they dont ? anything i should be worried about ?

On the side of your transmission will be a switch with several wires coming out of it. This is your reverse switch that turns on your reverse lights and most likely needs to be replaced

2002 grand cherokee, overland 4,7L engine doesnt

Hi Joko,

What you are describing is a failure of a main circuit. The first thing you should check is yo make sure that your battery is in good condition and that the cables are clean and tight. Let me know if yu find anything wrong there. Then there may be another main circuit problem. Check all of the fuses in your fuse block in the engine compartment. If any of these fuses are blown, it will usually cause several things to not work. If you find any fuses blown, DON'T REPLACE IT YET. Let me know WHICH fuse is blown and I can help you find out why it blew so you can get the problem fixed.

Get back to me on this and we will continue.

Transmission is slipping what can i do

Depending on how many miles you have on it. You may need to have some repairs done. I don't know if there is much you can do to a jeep after it starts slipping other than try and change the fluid. The rebuild is the best option for you for sure. But you could put some no slip transmission fluid additives in it. Go to a parts store if you think thats your best option and tell them whats wrong and they will hook you up with some good additives. Go to Advance Auto or Auto Zone. The rebuild will be less expensive if the transmission still functions. Around $1000 versus the non functioning transmission that would cost about $1400-$2000. New transmission cost a lot more.
And don't forget! Please leave four thumbs up. I always try my best at explaining my answer to your problem.
And for your safety, here is a complete list of recalls on your vehicle. If your vehicle is affected by one or more of these recalls, then you may qualify for a free repair!

your transmission is in "limp home" mode, the problem is one of the sensors on your transmission. you need to have an obdII scanner connected to read the codes stored in your vehicles computer. this will tell you which sensor has failed

I have a 2002 jeep grand cherokke v8 and with 11000 miles and the check engine light came on today I did get gas last night but I removed the gas cap today and put it back on ... the light is still on last...

Remove your negative cable for 5 min. from your battery to reset the comp. code. Put it back on. Drive it. If the light comes on, go to your local auto parts store, Autozone or someone big like that. They'll do a free scan on the comp. for the code and get you moving in the right direction for fix!

Had the same code on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Started having shifting problems as well. Code is for governor pressure sensor on trans. Cost me about $800 for dealer to fix. No problems after part changed out.

2002 jeep grand cherokee auto trasn is not changing gears

Personally, I'd drop the trans pan and give a look...but, best advice I can give you is to get to a REPUTABLE trans shop ASAP and not drive it unless its an emergency 'till then (more you drive, more damage you will do) The way a transmission is assembled, makes just about anything impossible without teardown.
And yes...only one filter in there.
