Question about 1994 Jeep Cherokee
For a few days now there has been a loud-ish running noise that gets louder the faster I go. Additionally, every time I hit a bump something springs up against the floorboards and bumps my foot. The guys at the shop informed me that the clips holding on my catalytic converter are shot and I need to replace it ASAP. The catch is (they claim) that it's a special piece with the tail pipe and the muffler and I can't replace one without replacing all three. I realize this is an older vehicle and can accept certain things will rust etc, but don't want to waste my money if they are working me over. The shop doesn't exactly seem to be 'woman friendly'.
Your cat is on the passenger side of the vehicle,,, don't see how it's hitting the floor under your foot. Get another opinion. Could be a transmission mount or some other part that's bad, (even an exhaust pipe hanger, but those things would be transmitting thump, and would not be under your feet.If the shield on the cat is loose, I've used green wire ground clips made for grounding electrical junction boxes on home wiring systems (available at any home-depot in the electrical department for about $2.00 for a bag of about 15 clips) to re-attach the shield so it dosen't vibrate. It is not heavy enough to cause a thump though! Have someone else look at it!!!
