Question about 1994 Toyota Pickup

1994 Toyota Pickup

I am trying to tighten the belt that connects the engine, fan, and alternator, but am unable to figure out how. I found the bolt the alternator pivots on and the one that slides, but they can't expect me to pull the belt tight with the alternator and no screw. Can they? Please help. Thanks

ah ok those are a pain. the easiest way i have learned to do it is to use a thick flat head screw driver to pry the alternater into position so the belt is tight {between the alternator and the alternator bracket} or wherever you can get a good bite and while prying tighten it up.theres no real way to do it.theres a tool called a tentioner adjuster but its not needed.if that dosent work email me agaig for more info.good luck

also some models are equipted with a belt tentioner it is located lower then the alternator on the belt track if you hook a socket to it it will swing from side to side but i would try the screwdriver trick first

There are 3 belts on the truck. The belt that goes around the alternator is not spinning. What could cause this belt not to turn?

Assuming that the belt is not broken ... you need to tighten the belt. This one is not as easy as the other two which have tensioners. This belt is tensioned by the alternator itself. I've found adjusting it to not be a lot of fun ... the tricky part is loosening the bolt that the alternator pivots on. There isn't a lot of room and I find one of the small palm ratchets to be helpful. So to tighten, you'd loosen the upper bolt that actually holds the tension on the belt, loosen the bolt that the alternator pivots on, re-tension the belt (using something to pry on the alternator if necessary) and tighten the two bolts again. If you have to replace the belt you'll need to remove the outer two to get to this one. The outer two tensioners are adjusted by loosening the bolt that holds the tensioner pulley in place and then turning the tensioner bolt itself to tighten or loosen the belt(s)... then retighten the bolt holding the pulley.

Alternator replaced

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

The different engine applications that the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable are equipped with utilize different types of alternators. The following is a list of vehicle applications. For 1986-90 vehicles:

The 3.0L and the 3.8L engines utilize a side terminal alternator.

The 2.5L and the 3.8L (with Police Package only) engines utilize an alternator with an integral rear mount regulator and an internal fan.

The 3.0L SHO engines utilize an alternator with an internal fan and regulator. For 1991-93 vehicles:

The 2.5L, 3.0L and 3.8L engines utilize an alternator with a rear mount regulator and an internal fan.

The 3.0L and 3.2L SHO engines utilize an alternator with an internal regulator and fan.For 1994-95 vehicles:

The 3.0L, 3.8L and 3.0L SHO engines utilize an alternator with a rear mount regulator and an internal fan.

The 3.2L SHO vehicles utilize an alternator with a internal regulator and fan.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Loosen the alternator pivot bolt, then remove the adjusting bolt.
3. Remove the alternator drive belt from the drive pulley.
4. Tag and disengage the wiring terminals from the back of the alternator. The stator and the field wiring are the push-on type of retainer. After depressing the lock tab, the connector should be pulled straight off of the terminal to prevent damage.
5. Remove the alternator pivot bolt, then remove the alternator from the engine.
6. Position the alternator on the engine.
7. Install the alternator pivot bolt and the adjusting bolt, but do NOT tighten the bolts until the drive belt it tensioned.
8. Engage the wiring terminals to the alternator, as tagged during removal.
9. Install the drive belt over the alternator drive pulley, then adjust the belt tension using Belt Tension Gauge 021-00019, or equivalent.

When adjusting belt tension, apply pressure on the front housing only.

10. Tighten the adjusting bolt to 30-45 ft. lbs. (41-61 Nm), then tighten the pivot bolt to 50-70 ft. lbs. (68-94 Nm).
11. Connect the negative battery cable.

Hope helps.

Fan/ alt. belt broken. Difficulty of replacement?

I'm assuming you have the 4cyl ... 22RE. On my truck the biggest problem was loosening the bolt that the alternator pivots on ... difficult to get at. I found one of the small palm type ratchets helpful. As I recall this belt is the innermost so you will have to remove the A/C and power steering belts to replace it. It's probably time to replace them all if one broke any way. The outer two have tensioners and so they're easy to adjust/remove ... the alternator you need to pry on it some to get the tension and then tighten the bolt that holds it in place ... and then tighten the previously mentioned pivot bolt. By the time you remove the splash pan to access the bottom etc you'll put a fair amount of time into the project but it's not difficult. And you'll know how to re-tension the belts when the time comes.

What do I loosen to get 1st belt off so I can change ac belt?

Assuming you're talking about the 22re ... there are tensioners on both the power steering (first) and the a/c belts. Loosen the bolt on the pulley and then the bolt on the side of the tensioner tightens and loosens the belt. You might want to check the inner ... alternator / water pump belt while you're there. No tensioner for this one, you need to loosen the bolt that the alternator pivots on, loosen the bolt on top of the alternator that holds it in place on that bracket and then pry alternator and tighten bolts to hold the tension.

Need diagram on alternator belt replacement on a

If the same as my '94 cyl then you tighten the belt by loosening the bolt that the alternator pivots on and the bolt that tightens the alternator to it's adjustment bracket. For my truck this is neither fun nor easy. The a/c and power steering belts having idler pulleys with adjustments on them making them MUCH easier to deal with.

Alternator belt replacement of 1989 Toyota pickup truck . there are 2 belts to get past before we can replace the alternator belt. How is best to remove first two belts.

Start with the power steering belt it takes a 12 mm socket for the bolt in the power steering . also loosen the bolt on the power steering pump pulley. remove the radiator lower fan shroud. It just clips in. pull the power steering belt around the fan and out of the engine compartment then do the a/c belt. That is the best way I know how.
