Question about 1985 Ford Bronco II

1 Answer

I have a 1987 Ford Bronco11. It has a automatic trans. and when I bought it I drove it about 20 miles home and it was fine. Two days later I went to drive it (for the first time sence I drove it home) and it would not go forwards, it would go in reverse strong. It did go into gear but would not move!! The only responce I could get was to shift the shifter from nuteral to low severl times than it would move very slow forward. I checked under the trans and found a plug that was not pluged in on top of the valve body. We were told it was a electronic pressure control selinoid. Could this control the shifting if it is not plugged in? There was a place on top of the pan to plug something in but it was for a 3 prong plug and this was a 2 prong. Pleas help

It sounds like at one point in time someone changer the transmission.there is a possibilty the connections didnt match and they made a new lead.i would call ford because there is a way to find out the problem with the tranny using the computer.it flashes the o/d overdrive light in a sequence that will result in a numeric code.im not sure how to do it on a bronco but i had the same problem on my mazda.

Take it back to where you got it and make them refund your purchase price. If they refuse and you finianced it go to them, There a law called "The Lemon Law" that makes it unlawful to sell something like that. Sounds like you sure bought one. Don't do anything to it just get hold of the place where you bought it and tell them to come get their junk out of your yard! dhgill1949

Sounds like a problem with your catalytic converter or possibly just an o2 sensor. If it is a cat problem I would make sure to have them address it b4 your warranty is up as they are typically very expensive!

Running so few miles has accelerated the aging of the battery - the battery never had a chance to fully recharge in such small trips -  so now you have to replace it a year sooner than usual.
Just replace it.

If you have a lot of miles on your van , 100,000 or more , have the transmission serviced. But before you do that , check the vacuum line to the modulator valve for leaks or breaks In the vacuum line .

1994 F350 transmission intermittent problem

I had the same problem in my 96 f-350. The transmission has slipped recording a slip code in the transmission. You can pull the codes and get it. I shifts into a safe mode that increases the pressure inside your transmission as part od a fail safe. Plain and simple, you have to have the tranny rebuilt.
