Just did this "easy fix" on my 1999 Camry.
Lift trunk lid and pull away carpet covering the tail light. Retain plastic pins that hold carpet in place. Be prepared to have your knuckles scraped by the carpet as you work.
On the 1999 Camry, this was NOT a tool-less fix. You could reach in, turn the tail light socket a quarter turn and them remove it without tools. You then simply pulled the bulb straight out (it was bulb size 904 on my 1999) and plug the new bulb straight in.
NOW... the rub. Although the bulb/socket came out easily, we found it impossible to get the correct angle to replace the bulb and socket without smashing the bulb. Two intelligent adults tried for 30 minutes.
So... step 3. Easy but requires tools. Get your socket set (I couldn't find the right socket, so I used a pair of needlenose vice grips--worked fine). There are two threaded bolts with nuts in the interior access area for all of the light sockets. Unscrew nuts, retain. Now look on the exterior edge of the tail light. There will be one more solid grey nut. Remove and retain.
Step 4: You can now loosen the tail light cover and pull it out enough to allow you to safely insert the bulb/socket assembly. Gently turn it until you can insert the socket, and then give it a quarter turn to lock it in place.
Step 5: Push tail light cover back into place making sure the two interior bolts are in place.
Step 6. Replace and tighten the three nuts.
So, not a 30 second fix. More like 10 minutes. Easy, but a pain, and requires a tool, but truly, if this clumsy 6 months pregnant woman can do it outside in the dark... so can you.

Haven't seen any bulb designation. The bulb(s) must be slender to fit through/into the socket. The backup lamp bulb is single element, the brake/turn signal/running lamp bulb is double element. The 1157 bulb is much too fat to fit into either socket.

Show me how to replace marker or side light

Hi and thank you very much for your question.

You need to remove the headlamp assembly in order to replace the side light bulb, but it's not too difficult. First, remove the grill which is held in place with two clips. Once the grill is out of the way, you need to locate two pins which pull upwards out of the headlamp. You should be able to pull the pins with a pair of pliers, but you may need a lever to start them moving. Once the pins are out, the lamp will pull forward far enough to get to the side light bulb holder. The bulb holder twists out and the bulb just pulls out of the holder.

I hope this answers your question?

  • Turn the engine off and approach the side of the porsch with the burn-out side-marker light. If you are replacing both, start at either side; the replacement procedure is the same.
  • 2 Remove the screws from the plastic fender liner. Peel back the liner to access the area behind the fender.
  • 3 Reach your hand inside to gain access to the side-marker light's backing. Push the backing forward to release the side-marker lens; it's held in place by small clips.
  • 4 Grab the lens on the outer side and turn it over to access the back. Gently turn the bulb to release it from the plastic lens.
  • 5 Pull the bulb straight out to remove it from the electrical socket. Insert a new bulb, but do not touch the glass part of the bulb with your hand.
  • 6 Push the new bulb into the side-marker lens. Turn it clockwise to install it. Push the side-marker lens back into place. Apply gentle pressure to the lens to pop it back into its mount.
  • 7 Replace the screws along the edge of the fender liner.

Raplacing a drivers side front marker light.

To replace the sidemarker light on a 96 Towncar, raise the hood and open the black plastic flap behind the header panel on that side. There is a 11mm nut down about 5" on the side. Remove it. The screw is on the outside just past the plastic lens. Pull the light out far enough to unscrew the bulb socket.

You probably have to access the bulb from the back of the bulb housing. The bulb is probably in a socket which plugs into the back. Twist and pull to remove it.

    Replace side marker bulb

I have the same vehicle and just went through this. The best way to get to those side marker bulbs is to loosen or remove the front grille. There are several screws to remove this grille. I removed the top screws (hood opened you'll see them) and simply loosened the lower and center section screws. This enables you to pull the grille out far enough from the main headlight area, where you can then access the side marker bulb outlet.

    SIDE MARKER LIGHT, PASSENGER SIDE

Assuming you are talking about the side marker bulb in the bumper, you need to get behind the bumper and un bolt the lens from the back side to change lens or if just bulb replacement twist socket counterclockwise to remove from lens and then change bulb. Keep in mind if the bumper has been hit this will be very difficult to do unless you loosen up bumper and pull out.
