Question about 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT

2000 pontiac grand am gt wont stay running

I can turn it over and it will start for a split second then die, if i hold the throttle all the way open it will stay running but it dies when i let off.

Replace your idle air control solenoid which is mounted on the throttle body .also check for vacuum leaks.

2000 dodge intrepid wont stay running


Have fuel pressure tested in both situations. I've seen fuel pumps quit once they get heated up, then when they cool, pump again. Perhaps try WD40 sprayed in to throttle body inlet when no start, and that will tell you if it's a fuel delivery problem. Just remove air cleaner intake hose at front of throttle body, and open throttle and spray for a second or 2 then try to start. If it fires up and runs for a second or 2, then it's a lack of fuel issue.

it will not run because the key has a chip in it,and is a alarm box that runs it.

Recently my 99 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cylinder has been having starting problems. It turns over, will start for a split second then turn off. To start it fully, i have to press on the gas to get it to stay on....


CHeck fuel pressure pump, if you need keep press to stay ON, it possible that some rpoblem in the injection system or fuel pressure or clogged injector/filter.

My engine turns over and starts but then dies after 2 0r 3 seconds. Plus the instrument cluster wont light up.


check main relay for ground and power from the ignition swicth. and fuel pressure. this is the only two reason for that.

Starts idol rough and dies says running with rpm up let off it dies


do you have a check engine light on? if not try cleaning the throttle body follow the tube from the air cleaner box to the throttle take hose off open throttle plate and clean with carb cleaner and a tooth brush and a rag car will run rough after you do this may have to hold throttle open to start

Runs cold, but dies when up to temp.


Crank sensor. When it cuts off again spray some water on it and see if it will start.

Car only start for a second


sounds like you a major vacumm leak which would cause this problem. you can take a can of brake cleaner and spray differant places over itake area and if the idle picks up and smooths out you should be able to find the leak.

Its either Youur Alternator which is the more likly solution and any part store will help you test it free if thats fine then its a fuel problem
