Can you use a full synthetic oil in 93 Dodge B250 Conversion van

It has over 100,000 miles on it and its a 318 engine. If so, would oil consumption be excessive or cause a seal break down?

Yes. Providing the engine has been well maintained and does not have lots lof sludge in it. I do not recommend flush (it loosens up too much debris all at one time and can plug pump screen. On older engines i usually introduce synthetic in "stages", replacing two quarts on first oil change, then 100% at 3000 miles (with filter). Does it work?? I used synthetic (amsoil) in a 318 engine bought at 100k miles and ran it till the trans finally started slipping @ 363K miles. When I bought it it had some light lifter noise. After using synthetic for a few months, noise disappeared and I never had any internal problems for the remainder of the time I had it (and sold car for $400 just for the engine!!!) As far as seaks go, usually synthetics will soften hard seals and lessen leaks valve covers etc may leak more but usually are easy to replace. Good luck PS: only synthetic I would not use is Mobil because there are more additive packages and less actual lubricant in each quart than you could imagine: it has been "re-formulated" at least ten times since they first put it on the market.

Here are the facts about synthetic oil, it is far superior in every respect to regular motor oil, engines that use it wear far slower in area's like the cylinder walls and rod bearings, it saves fuel because it is easier to pump because the viscosity changes little with temperature, oil change intervals can also be increased to at least 5,000 miles, which saves money and offsets the price of the oil. I would suggest you use it if u plan to keep your vehicle for a long time miles wise, otherwise it would be a waste of money at $6 per quart, will it increase oil consumption, most likely not, use 10W-30W is my recommendation.

Have 65000 miles what has to be done to keep up my motor

Your best longevity check is to set up and maintain a consistent oil and filter replacement schedule...Depending on your planned driving habits...your owners manual should recommend you change these every 5000-7500 miles or every 3 months whichever occurs first. Oil products have inproved for many years. The synthetic oil blends are the best for performance and mileage...most exceed your Cadillac specs...Mobil 1, and Castrol full synthetic are by preferences...No special tune-up or other maintenance should be needed at this time...watch for serpentine belt...100,000 miles...plugs and plug wires...100,000 miles...suspension parts vary between 75K to 100K before replacement...Hope this helps.

What oil weight is best for my car with 100,000 miles

Okay, you should have synthetic oil running in your vehicle. And, if you still do, sticking with a 5W-30 Synthetic Brand is just fine. It is one of the advantages of running a synthetic oil over the old school 10W-30 petrolium oil.

You don't need anything special for having over 100,000 miles. Just keep up with your oil changes.

How often should i change the oil in the 2008 dodge charger i was told not till 100,000 miles

Hell no change it to a good synthetic at 3000-4000. once you do you can start every 5000 changes. look in ur manual and see what dodge recomends. I bet its sure is not 100,000.

What kind of oil for 94 lincoln mark 8

I would 5w-30 non-synthetic, high mileage formula. Full synthetic will leak through old engine gaskets easier and the high mileage formula has the conditioner additive for the older gaskets.
Personally, I use Valvoline Maxlife in my car because it has over 100,000 miles on it. Works great.

Burning a lot of oil

Hi:
A quart every 1000 miles is not unusual, but can get expensive if you are using synthetic oil. Have you always used that in this Jeep? Even though synthetic oil is of higher lubricating quality than conventional oil, it is still thinner, or has less viscousity than normal oil too. What this often means is that an older engine with slightly worn valve seals or some engine wear might consume more oil when you use synthetic. This is not a problem, really, as long as you keep tabs on your oil level.

If you want to experiment around, once it gets warmer out, you could try some 20w-50 oil and see if your oil consumption drops, or even try adding some Lucas Oil stabilizer to your next oil change. If this helps you know that part of your consumption is due to the thinner oil you were using.
