Question about 2001 Renault Sportwagon

Acceleration problems, juddering on a 1.2 16v 2001 plate.

Hi, recently my clio has been having a few issues. When i pull away the car will pull well, then lose power for a second, then pull again and so on. usually happens when say youre in 2nd at low revs, then accelerate again, or when youre in any gear at low revs come to that. Although at higher revs, say 2500+ it is ok and the car will pull like normal. There are no warning lights on the dashboard, and i don't think that it is a problem with the clutch. has anyone come across this before, or does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be the problem?

well i drove through a large deep puddle the other day and the air box got some water in it. I attempted to remove most of the water, and then changed the air filter. The leads have not been changed since i have owned it, but the spark plugs were changed 6000 miles ago, and the oil abour 9,000 ago. But does this explain the way that the car performs normally at higher revs, and on motorways etc. why would this just be at low revs and when pulling away?

oh right thanks. as i say i replaced the air filter straight away, and im not sure if the problems started before the puddle incident? so could it be anything else, assuming that these are all in order?

These cars are really acute with there problems and this such prob is usually caused by the air filter needing changing, and full service with plugs and leads doesnt usually go a miss. when was the last time it had new oil and plugs and leads and filters?

after you saying all that i would say it is in dire need for replacments as the air filter cannot get wet due to it being made from paper. you shouldnt notic this till the engine needs more air such as on mways and such. the plugs and leads are quite resilient but can only take so much grief from the elements. if the puddle was deep enought to arc the spark from leads to each other then you could have damaged the electrical system as well, but i would start small and work way through to major fault finding

The most common cause of clutch judder when releasing to pull away is oil on the plates. That can be caused by main bearing seals failing.

What is causing a couple of second judder when accelerating away after changing from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th gear ?

it may be from failing engine mounts allowing the engine to misalign the drive shaft under acceleration and allowing problems in the cv joints or "U" joint

you might have a bad plug wire it doesn't have to be loose you could have a hole or cut in the wire and it's not getting a good spark to the cylinder. the radio interferance tells me this might really be the problem

Should the clutch on a 1932 rolls judder on pulling away? it is better if I use on revs is this normal?

hi, when a judder appears on take of it usually means the splined shaft that the clutch plate fits on is dry or has some surface rust on it, if the car stands idle a lot of time this is probably your problem, on older cars there is sometimes a cut out in the bell housing where you can acces the thrust bearing, sometimes a small amount of lubricant can be applied directly to the centre of the shaft while somebody pumps the clutch pedal, and it may do the job, otherwise it is a gearbox out job and take it from there, hope this helps, if i can help any more do not hesitate to ask, thanks for using fixya
