Drives for awhile and just dies

I can drive for awhile and the car will just dies. It seems if it isn't getting any gas

    u are sure it isn't getting fuel?? I ask because the distributor ignition module is a common failure on this year, that gives no spark.

Replace main relay under the dashboard driver side.

if its revving up pushing on gas pedal it sounds like a transmission problem disengaging when it gets to operating temperature.

If you have a carby check that the auto choke is working correctly. If is set too tightly closed it will flood the engine every time and pumpin the pedal will not help the situation. Mostly the correct adjustment should be almost closed but will open under air flow.

I have an automaic,1994 Mercury Capri that has a new distributor and ran fine for about three days at which time it just cut out and died while driving down the road. It isn't sparking(or atleast it...


You probably have solved this by now, but my question is - was the distributor a brand new one, rebuilt, or a used one? The ignition module inside the distributor commonly go bad, and get heat sensitive (drive for awhile until the car heats up then it quits). Even a brand new one could have a defective module inside the distributor...take it back...good luck...

May be your transmission slipping gears. Have someone look at it. Mine did the same thing at 99,700 miles. Good luck.
