2000 jetta automatic problems

I have a 2000 jetta 2.0 with automatic trans. I parked it in the garage after workthe other day and when I went to move it later on it would not move in any gear, before i parked it the trans shifted great. Does anyone have any idea what it could be. I dont see how the transmission could have gone bad, could it be electrical and where do I begin to look. thanks

There is a relay for the transmisson under the dash that controls the shifter, found out alittle about relays, there are some cheap ones on the net!

Ok , so you got home , parked it and when you started it up the next day and shifted it into reverse... backed out... and went to shift into drive , it stayed in reverse ?
Have you checked to see that the cable has not disjoined itself from the shifter to the trans.?
Are you able to engage Park?

Gear shift won't move out of park

safety switch on brake pedal. common cause is a wire breaking off. there are 1 to 2 wires going to this switch. It is located on the brake pedal bracket above the foot pad.

I currently have the same problem, and looking at replacing the transmission wire harness. I'm hoping this will cure my problem. My volkswagon mechanic thinks so anyways.

Transmission won't shift fron 1st, 2nd or 3rd correctly!

Sorry to inform you that it sounds like your transmission needs servicing.
Check the fluid levels and replenish if level is down.
If after doing this, the car still wont shift properly or smoothly,,then you will have to take the car into a transmission mechanic.

Most probably a leaking water pump. G12 radiator fluid is red, but so is automatic transmission fluid.
The water pump is driven by the belt near the air filter. Park ur car and let it run, look underneath ur car to see where it's leaking from.
Radiator fluid is slightly oily and has a sweet smell to it. Touch the fluid off the ground and smell it.

Is ur car automatic or manual? Which engine?? 1.8 or 2.0?

Get back to me so we can figure out ur next move.
