Question about 1993 Nissan Altima

1 Answer

I have a 1993 Nissan Altima and the RPM is Running High at 2000 RPM and 3000RPM. I had a problem with my car only running a few miles and it shutting off, and when it cooled down it would start back up. It was a distributor problem.. I had gotten that fixed. It was running great until the RPM started going high.. The car aslo has hard shifting in reverse and going into 1st gear. I'm trying to figure out what the problem is. If you could help with Ideas that would be very much appreciated.. Thanks

The RPM of Nissan Altima stays high when drive over 65 MPH.

No....the rpms differ from engine to engine and from manufacturer to manufacturer. RPM's are always higher at higher speeds.

1993 Nissan Altima Gearshifter or Transmission problem

Sounds like a neutral safety switch in problem #1 and a sticky or faulty solinoid in problem #2
The tranny has quite a few solinoids that are electronic which sometimes burn out or fail with high mileage.
Hope this helps

1996 nissan altima keeps running hot new thermastate

There are a few things that can cause your car to run hot. Not enought antifreeze is one. It could also be your cooling fan is not working, a colgged heater core, colgged radiator, thermostat is stuck closed, leaky water pump, or coolant temp sending unit. Hope this helps.

Look for oil under the distributor cap. If you see any spots or puddles of oil under it you have the ubiquitous oil leak coming through the distributor issue. I had the same problem with my 94 Altima.
Carefully take off the distributor cap, get some contact cleaner and spray down the encoder wheel and wipe out the excess oil. "Be careful, if you chip or break the encoder wheel you'll be shopping for another distributor shaft!!" You may want to replace the gasket on the cap if you feel ambitious (However I never did and since cleaning out the distributor my Altima has been running great for the last 15K miles...)

all new cars are computer and sensor driven the most effective way to deal with ur problem is get a diagnostic reading on your vehicle to find out the malfunctioning component. otherwise its a trail and error thing and u may fix things that r not necessary the problem. it could be something difficult or complex, the money spent on finding out whats wrong will save u future time and money
