Mercedez 202 C240

Got a mercedez C 240 engine just died in the freeway got it tow at home after 8 hrs.try to start it started.i check the air filter too dirty clean it and started again it started i decided to replace it with k&n air filter stated it and 5 min.engine died again whats seems to be the problem?is it electrical or fuel pump?oil and gas ok and have a coolant too.it seems when its hot it just died?any solutions pls?

Apollo, I would first pull all the plugs out and give a little squirt of something like seafoam or even just a bit of engine oil into each cylinder, you may have lost the seal between the rings and cylinder walls and this will help. You also need to confim for shure that you are not getting fuel before you worry about the pump. You can check this at the fuel rail, either by opening up the line, or in some cases you may even have a schrader vale(like a tire valve) on the line that you can press. I suspect that you do have fuel, but the injectors are not oppening due to the old fuel sitting in them for so long. These can be removed and taken to a shop that cleans injectors, and then reinstalled with new seals. And yes I do belive that there is a fuel pump relay in the fuse area, you need to do a search to find out wich one. These can be jumpered to activate, but untill you have done everything else i wouldn't worry about it. Oh, I asume that you have checked for spark? If not, you can pull a plug out and with the wire attached you can hold the base of the plug against the block, while wearing gloves, and see if you get a spark when some one cranks it over. Remember, you must have spark, compression and fuel at the right time in the proper ammount, and it will run.

Engine died while driving on the freeway, now only cranks but wont turn over/


As with any no start problem, have you checked for spark at the plugs and normal fuel pressure at the injectors ?
Does it crank with normal compression ?

I'd look for issues when it is not running-does it get spark? When it completely dies, and you try to start it, look at the tachometer, see if it moves-if it does, you have spark. Then you know it is a fuel problem, either the fuel pump is going/gone (can be checked when not running by checking fuel pressure at the rail when cranking)-or it might be as simple as the fuel filter (that'd be nice)-I personally think the IAC (idle air controller) had nothing to do with your problem and your mechanic just threw that part at it-I'd be more inclined to think it was a Mass Air Pressure sensor (MAP) if I was going to suspect something that might cause your problem, an IAC would not do that-is the MAP plugged in?

No matter what, the fuel pressure is easy to check, the filter easy to replace-and the MAP would set a Check Engine Light.

When you said checked the fuel filter, did you mean changed the filter?? And does the Battery hold 12 volts?? Check the battery to make sure it has 12 volts. If you have a second car, take the alternator off and bring it to a auto parts store like Auto Zone and they can test it free of charge and battery too. Change the fuel filter, if both are good then check all the fuses and relay, Pay attention to the fuel pump fuse and ECM fuse. If everything has is good then it's going to be a bad fuel pump, which is located in the gas tank. That requires to dropping the tank to get to the fuel pump. Good luck and hope this helps.

Might be fuel pump, or filter is pluged up, best to chg. filter and then do a fuel pressure test.

check fuel pump for faulty ground.i had same problem and thats what it was,ground was loose,it was some times go and some times stall then quit till i had it towed and new ground put properly on
