My thermostat is at the side of the radiator and there's another water housing on the engine block

follow top radiator hose to motor, at motor that should be your thermostat housing, pull 2 bolts out holding it @ remove housing, thermostat is under, replace thermostat exactly as you removed it, you will need a new gasket also.

SOURCE: thermostat needs to be replaced

just follow your top radiator hose from the radiator to the block. at the block where the hose ends is the thermostat housing. its in there

SOURCE: vw golf flasher unit

The flasher unit is located in the top center of the dash! Its a push button about the side of quarter!

the fuel pump is in the tank. is the problem the fuel pump or the relay? the relay is near the steering column, see the relay first.

Thermostat for VW golf 1996 The temp gauge raised to almost 220 but water temp light did not flush at all. Is it possible that the car has no thermostat?
Hi,
Usually if a vehicle has NO thermostat the engine runs too cold for to long. So I suspect your VW has a thermostat. Suggest you check to make sure you have ample antifreeze, and that the fan is working properly. If those two things are O.K. then a blocked radiator or water pump issue will need to be checked out. With a 50/50 mix of antifreeze 220 degrees will not harm your engine. Good Luck.

you have to remove thermostat housing from under water pump to get to thermostat.you also need a haynes or chilton repair manuals.it will make job easy.finding and locating parts of the car.
