yes, that is normal. that car has what is called CVT trans. infinite gear ratios. does not shift. what you feeling is the trans working.no issue. a lot of people have issues/don't like it, but nothing to worry about. plus Nissan extended their warrantee on CVT trans to 120000 miles. so don't worry about it, unless you have that already.
no on 05 chevy the transmisson shift is control by vacume look for a vacume line that is dry rooted or has come off start at the engine first then work the way down to the transmisson. a line off or dry rotted any where in the syastem will give you a hard shift sometiimes like a hard jerking motion when shifting.
It sounds like the truck might be 'hunting' for it's gear - try shifting the transmission down one notch, and see if this stops the jerking... at least it will give you a better indication of the problem.
