Suspect the glow plugs or timer not working proper. You could plug your truck in keep the engine warm so it starts easier. Or you could have the glow plugs tested and replaced if faulty. Your engine has 8 glowplugs and even a couple faulty glowplugs will cause problems starting. You could have injector or injection pump problems as well but harder to diagnos yourself.

Hi I have Chevy cavalier 1995 it was running OK in the summer now when the cold siesan started when I live it for while or over night it takes me while to start it, what may cos that? thank you.

try by changing the coolant temperature sensor, this may be your problem. Coolant sensor problems will manifest themselves during cold starts and during the warm up period, such as hard starting, erratic idle, smoke, stalling, etc, good-day !

Causes of a 1995 2500 diesel silverado to smoke when started

the fuel is not getting burned right away or ther is too much fuel being pumped. But if it only does it on start i wouldnt change a thing. If it does it all the time that means your pumpin some ponies out of it the blacker the better unless your tryin to get as many miles to a tank as possible

My 95' Chevy diesel k2500 stalls out when im driving it. it will idle just fine and starts back up right after stalling. truck will drive about 1 mile before stalling again. What Can I check?

I have replaced many injector driver modules on these diesels. GM has redesigned it and i have never had a replacement one fail. This is a known problem for the 6.5 diesel. Unfortunately its about a 500 dollar part from the dealer, and requires intake removal, and some very tight work space to replace.

1994 chevy 2500 diesel starts hard even when is warm out

hi, if you tend to have the problem when you first try starting it but say you have driven for about 20min or so untill the engine is up to running temp if you then switch it off then start it back up strait away if it then starts with no problems then this points to the problem being the glow plugs so these will all need replacing.
You can sometimes turn the ignition on and wait for the light to go out but instead of starting it you turn the key off then back on again so the light comes back on for a second time then when it goes off it may start a bit better depending on how far gone the glow plugs are.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

1994 chev truck 6.5 turbo diesel with long hard start ,idles good and smooth, rev it up and it craps out and smokes a heavey fuel cloud, unplug optical sensor and engine runs better but still has a stumble...

There is a cold start solonoid in the injection pump on the 92&93's. this will cause a hard start, and run poorly till warms up. It does something with the presure in pump which advances it.

Hard starting diesel, at approxamately anytime temp gets below 45 degrees F. runs rough when started, smokes, then once warmed up no problem. Has quit on me twice in traffic.

only 2 things can maake a diesel run rough at start up ,,1--- air in the system 2----- 1 or more of the glow plugs not working. this sounds like the latter ,if you have a couple of glow plugs not working ,it will miss on those cylinders until it warms up ,and the smoke is mostll exesive fuel when it does fire . recommend you check the glow plugs

1992 gmc sierra turbo diesel starts and idles fine until warm up

It's time for a Italian tune up!

The blue smoke can be one of two thing.

oil drop from the valve stem (from engine head to cyclinders)
or
diesel soot collect inside the exhaust system.

===
I will take a 5-10 minutes high rpm (not redline) ran on the highway.
Pay close attention to the rear view mirror and look for black diesel soot.
=== I will use Diesel Cleen or similar product to condition the fuel. (keep moisture down)
Use the recommended amount of SEAFOAM oil additive to condition the valve stem seal/rubber parts.

I can not rule out excessive blown by.
Can you get a diesel compression tester?
When was the last valve adjustment?

Please post the actual odometer on the engine and I will follow up on it.
