I do believe that that any SL series motor is interchangeable.
I just swapped an engine cradle from a 94 SL II with a cradle from a 2001 SL II.

Car Won't start after motor swap

Have you checked whether it is on model?,does your vehicle can communicate with the variable sensors of the new engine? are the crank and cam shaft sensors the same on serial number or are different? Does the injection system gets the correct fuel pressure or is not sufficient.

Low compression in cyl #3

that means your rings, valves, or head gasket are going bad beyond the normal aging of all the cylinders. the number 3 was the first to go on my 91 DOHC too. the car is nearly 20, and that stuff happens with age and use. I would look around for a low mileage DOHC Saturn engine from a 94 SC2 or SL2. the engine is so old that to fix it you will have to rebuild it which will cost far more than the 500 dollars the whole car is worth. the same engine was in them from 92-94, possibly even a 95. make darn sure you find a DOHC engine and not the SOHC, they look almost the same but they are not interchangeable unless you change the transmission, the exhaust, all the wheels, and the speedometer.

I had to stop in the dark by the roadside and add oil to my 94 Saturn SL2 in the middle of nowhere, and apparently, i left my oil dipstick out among the cornfields. i'm having a horrible time finding...

Do you live somewhat out in the middle of nowhere?A salvage yard should have plenty of dipsticks for your engine size as it would seem that it is not highly looked for and would only go with the engine if someone bought the whole engine. If there is not one close enough, try finding ones a little farther out.Just let them know the engine size and I amsure they would ship it for a few extra $.Hopefully not more than $5.Good luck! 97 Saturn sl2. Won't start after it gets warm. If you drive it for 15-20 minutes and try to restart it will not engage the starter. Wait a couple hours and it will start fine

It is your engine coolant temp sensor (ECTS). 99.9%. the saturn made them with a plastic tip, so they crack over time. A replacement should be about 15 bucks and not too hard to replace. You'll notice your engine temp gauge not working (always cold).

I don't know much about cars, but here's what happens. When your car is cold, the fuel runs rich. Your broken sensor is always reading that the engine is cold, but when it is warm, it runs too rich and floods your engine, not allowing it to start. When your engine is actually cold, everything is fine.

Weird idle when clutch is disengaged

Sounds like a bad idle air motor (That controls idle) But you must pull compiter codes first (The computr tells it what to do)

Question? is the engine's heat normal, if not there's sensor that boosts idle when the engine is cold

If you removed the thrmostat, put it back in.FIRST
