Question about 1990 Nissan 240SX

Can anyone describe how to easily check if timing has "jumped" on a 1990 240SX? Or describe the EGR valve location. I'd also like to find a vaccum line diagram. Thanks!

No vacum from manifold to egr .1990 chevy truck 1500


check for vaccum from throttle body to egr solenoid,if you dont have vaccum your vaccum port is stopped up in the throttle body,then check for vaccum from solenoid to egr valve.

My car overheated. changed gaskets p0401 light comes on when car reaches hot temperature.


p0401 is an insufficient EGR flow. check your vaccum line that is connected to the egr valve to see if it is cracked. then start the car and unhook the vaccum line and it should have suction similar to a vaccum. If that is good then you need to take your EGR valve off and look up inside of it and make sure it is not clogged up. Also look where the valve connects to the engine and make sure the hole there is not clogged up with carbon. If that is all clean then your egr valve is bad

I cant find where the egr solenoid plugs in 95 mitsubishi eclipse gst trubo


egr transducer solenoid,,located at underhood, beside a/c idle up solenoid control, take alook at the vaccum hose at egr valve, its goes through the egr solenoid treansducer valve, picture later

check the hoses, be sure they are in good condition and plugged in. check also the egr valve.

Check engine light on,obd code P0402 I can hear leaking air under neat


code should be for egr flow - air leak you hear could be egr pipe or tubing rusted out or broken

Im having ERG problems. Vaccum leak somewhere. Check engine light came on. check all around the engine for hoses off. could not find any.


Check for

vacuum leaks on intake manifold,

the air tube between the air filter.

intake manifold vacuum hose.

clean throttle plate with Berryman carburator cleaner

Also remove carbon built up behind the EGR valve and the EGR passage tube.

Vacuum leak WILL offset the intended 14.7 to 1 air fuel ratio.

More un-metered air (leaks) will lean out the fuel mixture.

Use small amount of Berryman carb clearer at potential air leak area will help you identify trouble spot.

At idle,just spray and listen for the RPM surge.

The in-rush of carb clearer will increase the RPM on the motor.

Record the problem spot(s) and address it later.

EGR carbon built up require 2+ hours to clean from start to finish.

You will need a new EGR base gasket before your start.

Locate and remove the EGR valve after the vehicle is cool down.

Carefully record the connector and vacuum line (for older vehicle) location by drawing an easily to follow diagram.

Remove the EGR valve.

Inspect the location of the carbon built-up inside the valve and the EGR passage tube.

SOAK these areas with WD-40 spary.

You will need a small screwdriver,cloth hanger and lot of newspaper and time to get this cleaning done right.

RE-SOAK the carbon and let it sit for over-night will also help.

One the last round,pass a shop vacuum of the EGR valve and the passage pipe.

Install the new EGR gasket and connectors.

Allow the vehicle to warm up outdoor to burn up any remaining WD-40.


Take it for a test drive.

When stopped (car in drive) the idle drops and the engine wants to stall out. I was told I needed to replace the EGR cable?


EGR movement limited/blocked by carbon.

I have a 1998 k1500 i think i have a bad egr valve but im not sure. there is not a vaccum hose on it. so i cant check it that way. any tips


The EGR's rarely go bad if you have alot of carbon and it comes and goes then clean the EGR of carbon and try to clean the carbon from the intake as well. A small piece of carbon lodged in the EGR will keep it open and cause these problems, it will then blow out run good til the next piece get lodgedinside. If the EGR failed, because it is electronic, it would give you a code as to the pintle selonoid failure.

P1400 on your vehicle is described as :Differential Pressure Feedback EGR Circuit Low Input You either need a new DPFE valve, or a new EGR valve. Both can be tested for functionality before replacing them both. EGR valve is more likely I think. Cleaning it may not improve its performance, but its worth a try. Also check the vacuum lines between the DPFE and EGR system. The EGR valve and DPFE are usually close together above the exhaust manifold/downpipe. you need service instructions to test these items, suggest you go to a garage really...
