The door latch could be closed, in other words, the door thinks it shut into the striker. Take and hold the door handle open, like your trying to open the door, hold the handle out or up and at the same time open the latch, it may be stuck or closed...If that's not it, you may have to re-align the latch to the striker, the striker will come loose with a torx bit. Loosen it up, and move it around and re tighten, it's a trial and error deal, just keep trying different positions until if works right...

Tailgate door wont latch

IT sounds like you closed the Trunk/ Liftgate with the Latch partway closed. Lube the Latch and hopefully it is not bent. If it is not latching, you can try and ensure it is aligned propery (use a piece of Tape and see where it is hitting the STRIKER...

If not, you are going to be replacing the Latching Mechanism.

Driver door closed but door alarm and lock keep going off?

Sounds like the door latch is not closing all the way, Try spraying some WD40 into the latch in the door where it hits the striker post. Hold the door handle up and bump the door shut and open while holding the handle up on the out side several times, This should loosen the latch up and the door should close and latch. The more you spray and work the door the better it should get. If not the latching mechanisim may need replaced. I hope I have help you sovle the alarm problem.

Back seat car door won't shut

There should be a metal bolt or loop on the body side called a striker, check to see if it has come loose, also where the door meets the striker there is a notch on the door with a latch in the notch, check to see if the latch is open, if not, you may have to hold the door handle up (like you are opening the door) and at the same time try to open the latch in the notch on the door. If the latch in the notch is open already then try to roll it closed and see if it stays, if it doesnt then you are going to need a new door latch. Hope this helps.

1989 s10 blazer the door handle broke off we went threw the window to unlock the door. We lost the small spring that unlatches the door from the frame. I got the door finally open with a screw driver....

the interior trim will come off to gain access to the lost part. Get a telescopic magnet which will retreive this part. If it is the striker the latch hits and keeps the door safley shut That is what I think your refering to. The striker bolts to the B pillar which keeps the door shut. Also the striker should cost no more than $15 to 20 $$ to replace. Maybe less

I have a 1997 ford thunderbird lx and the other day when i went to close the door when i got out it,it wuldnt shut i slammed it a couple times n it still wouldnt shut i really need help because i cant...

Here's something that might help you. Look at the door theres a little hook that grabs the striker on car, hold the door handle "open" and move the hook to the open position try to close the door. That should solve your problem. Hope that helps you.

Drivers door latch will not engage door striker. it hits striker but will not stay over center and door closer does not activate

well, look and see if the striker has slipped back, then, look at the latch, it might be engaged if it is, stick a screw driver in it and pull the handle to release it using the screw driver as the striker.

Sounds like the crash buggered up your door's alignment with the strikers. The best thing to do would be to run it in to a good body shop, or figure out how to align it back with the strikers yourself (Not an easy, nor a fun, job).
