Question about 1998 Nissan Frontier
I have a 1998 Nissian Frontier, 2.4 liter, 4 cyl, 4x4. Belts squeal on start up for a few minutes. Is there a way to fix this problem? I have changed the belts, the pulleys, new hardware, and new brackets and nothing works for more than a few days. I have put brake fluid on the belts since its water based and shouldn't destroy the belt but that is only a 1 day fix. Any suggestions?
Squeal belts usually mean not enough tension. I have had problem with persistance squeling in the past, the problem turn out to be cheap aftermarket belt that keep stretching and wouldn't maintain proper tension, putting brake fluid or any kind of oily liquid on your belt will make it worst not better.

I also have a 98 Frontier 2.4 litre with the same problem. On start up the the thing squeals like crazy I change all the belts and pulleys to no avail. Talked to a mechanic and he said it was probably the A/C clutch and not the belts. I'm having mine replaced this week and will post again to let you know if thats the case. good luck.

We are having the same problem on our 2000 Nissan Frontier 4 ltr 5 speed. It seems to be problem with the bracket and/or pulley adjustment mechanism. So far, no matter what we do, the tensioner pulley is cocked when we get everything in place. We are trying some rearrangements with the bracket and support for the pulley to try and fix it.
