If this is a windstar I can help. Just had this repair. If it making a clicking sound, than it is the blend motor. You must be very agile and flexible. It took me about 2 hours to complete. The large plastic cover has to be removed. Remove the cup holder first. Than the cover and radio. The duct work for the rear heater was the hardest to do and it broke while I was trying to remove. Than you can get your am in there to remove the motor. Good luck

Probably a vacuum motor on the blender door has gone bad or the vacuum line broken or fell off.Find the blender door motor and with engine running, wheels blocked and emergency brake on in park, check the motor's operation. don-ohio

Heater hot/cold control knob doesn't work need to have the hot air.

Check the motor on the top of the heater plenum. It turns a shaft to shift the blender door which controls the input to this plenum either the heater core or the evaporator core (ac). You may find the motor is OK but the shaft (plastic) has broken and the blender door has to be replaced. This is a costly job that involves removing this plenum after removing the dash. A shortcut I found online was to cut a hole under the blender door and replace it through this opening. After replacing you can seal up the hole with epoxy. I cut three sides of a square hole leaving the back uncut. Pull down and the blender door can be removed. My problem was on a 1997 Explorer. _6.gif

Well, your local garage is correct. Most cars now a days have computers for everything. That is one computer that runs those things. But before you go into replacing an expensive motor, go through and get a wiring diagram from your local parts store, and then see where the wiring all have in common, this may only be the computer, but may be a fuse of some sort. hope that helps.

Had no heat-Mechanic replaced "bender" motor/epoxied sleeve. Now no a/c. Said he would have to change manually

Hi, I have a 2001 Windstar which had the same problem. The fix is to replace the blender door motor ($45.00) it's a little white plastic box located behind the radio under the dash board.  The plastic gears in the motor box can get broken (made in China). I had to remove about 8 screws, the radio, and then it was easy to replace. Before you purchase a new blender motor first check to be sure this is the problem. (1) The door on the glove box can be lowered and you can put your hand on the plastic box (the motor is insidethis little box) when you do this you can feel it clicking when you hear the clicking noise. (2) A service manual will tell you to disconect the battery but it's not nessary. (3) You may need to purchase a special tool to remove the radio. Mine has 4 little holes that uses two  special u-shaped tools you stick it in the holes, push them to the outside and pull the radio out.
I hope this helps. Warren
