Question about 1986 Subaru Gl 2 Door

1 Answer

86 Subaru Manual Transmission making air raid siren noise

The noise is really loud. People will start pulling over when I drive down the road! It seemed like at the same time, or maybe earlier in the day, a possible fuse went?... the stereo, clock, wiper stopped working. Noise started after I filled the tank with gas from almost empty. Also sounds like industrial vaccuum cleaner. It seems to be coming from under the spare tire.

Hi thanks. No not the muffler. Seems to be coming from under the hood.

  • lunabelle246 Feb 27, 2009

Well, that sounds possible... I've recently noticed that the crankshaft pulley is seized. The engine does start. Haven't put breaker bar on the crankshaft pulley yet, nor have I attempted yet to remove it...

I've figured it out... very simple! The ignition was loose. All I have to do is turn the key a little back to the left after I start it. Suby lives on! I think the electrical was having problems because the belts were loose, coincidentally at the same time. The crank shaft pulley has indeed actually been turning; My friends and I are just novices that need to use a little more elbow grease.

The fuel tank may have dropped down and might be rubbing on the prop shaft if so then the fuel tank mounting straps will need to be replaced

1998 land rover discovery transmission makes loud banging noise when shifting from pari to drive?

Tons of possibilities here (transmission, differential, motor mounts, transmission mounts....), so I'll ask some debug questions to help narrow it down. Does it make the noise when shifting into reverse? Also, does it make the noise only when shifting from park, or also when shifting from neutral (into drive or into reverse)? Did the noise start as an occasional, softer noise and get worse over time, or did it start suddenly? Does the vehicle lurch at the same time as the noise? What happens when you go from Reverse to Drive, or vice versa? Has any work been done recently (brakes, tires, alignment, suspension, transmission)?

2003 Subaru outback h6 3.0. Starts fine, when I shift into reverse or drive I get a loud grinding noise

Is your 2003 Subaru Outback automatic or manual transmission?
If it is automatic, then your transmission sounds like it's malfunctioning into the reverse gear as it is not aligning properly.
If it is manual, then your transmission sounds like it may have a bad clutch or bad reverse gear.
Either solution is not cheap. Good luck.

Having a steady growl once in motion, sounds louder on the passenger side. Manual transmission - no problems (yet) with day to day running down the road. Just noise - getting louder.

hello when you are driving down the road and its making the noise slightly turn left and right if the noise changes then replace the wheel bearing if not check the axle

HELLO; IF THIS NOISE IS COMING FROM THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHAT YOU ARE HEARING IS THE ELECTRIC AIR PUMP WHICH IS NORMAL UNLESS IT IS REALLY LOUD OR MAKING A GRINDING NOISE. tHIS PUMP IS PART OF THE EMISSION SYSTEM.

Truck makes loud noise unless clutch is pushed in

chances are the adjustment of the throwout bearing fork is the problem . because of vibration that is the rattling that you are hearing. correct adjustment should be as follows.

#1...peddle travle should be no more than 1 1/2 inches

#2...the clearance between throw out bearing and fork no more than 1/2 inch

#3...clearance between fork and fork stops is 1/8 inch

also there should be grease zerts in the shaft that holds the fork and linkage make sure they are not dry of grease...please rate the solution....thanks
