If this problem persists then you could check a few things on it, like on the times when its not even making a noise when trying to turn the key, use rubber/wooden object and tap the starter motor but not touching the contacts on the back. if this amkes it spring into life then it will be your starter motor if this does nothing then it will be a dodgy battery supply. does it also make like a screaching noise while trying to start? if so then definitely your starter motor

Why wont my 98 honda civic start all of a sudden when its been running perfect since i bought it? Its acting like the battery is dead but wouldnt it start to give me signs that its starting to go out?

If you hear a clicking sound but the engine is not turned over by the starter then you have a defective starter mounted starter solenoid, the internal contact that supply the starter motor are eroded from arching. If that is not the case then check all battery connections and have the battery tested, modern batteries seldom give any warning when they fail, one minute cranked over fine next nothing.

Honda civic crank position sensor

The first time the check engine light came on I was at approx 85K miles. Bought it to the dealership for diagnostic and they told me it was the catalytic converter. Can you send me information on how to replace it?

My 1998 Honda Civic will not turn over. The battery is good but when I try to start it I hear no sound. What could be the problem?

If you turn the key and you don't even hear a click, first I would check to see if you move the shifter from park through the PRNDL and back (assuming it is an automatic). If that solves the problem, it is a bad or misaligned neutral safety switch (as far as I know, it is not common on Honda's, but it is a quick test). Then, I would check the ignition switch and the main relay. The starter could be the issue, but usually they still click when they go bad. I believe that that generation of Honda Civic had some issues with the ignition switch. I have been told that the main relays of the 92-95 had problems that may have carried over to a limited amount of the next generation.

My 1998 honda civic ex coupe will not start. car makes starting noise but will not turn over. i tried to replace the battery but didnt get anything out of that. i replaced the alternator last year. not...

One question with many answers. It could be the starter,
or a good battery with dirty or bad cable connections or a
loose connection on the wire to the starter. Did the problem
occur gradually or all of a sudden? Usually the starter will
begin to warn you before it fails. A bad rotor, distributor or
alternator will not prevent the car from cranking.

My 1998 honda civic ex. It cranks but Engine does not start . I could not locate the fuel injectors fuse. I openned fuel line and fuel spurt out when it cranking. But I smell no gas at airfilter intake.

How many miles are on it? Have you changed timing belt? Was there any symptoms prior to non starting? Pull a spark plug see if you are getting spark. If not it is probably coilpack on distributor have it tested. Common problem I have had experienced with civics.

95 honda civic ex squeals when starting engine

Some of the grime, etc on the engine prior to steam cleaning along with any solvents used may have affected the drive/fan belt. I would suggest you either check tightness of the belt and possibly consider replacing it.

Starting in hot weather

Turns out that Hondas are notorious for having starting problems during the summer (sometimes it also happens when you just run them for a short while). I have a 1990 honda civic lx and was having starting problems and noticed that it was mostly during hot days. I got my starter rebuilt but the problem continued. Also I noticed that my car was flashing CODE 16.
The flashing code, together with the starting problems, points to a problem with the MAIN RELAY.
Turn the ignition on and check for codes, pull the carpet back on the passenger side floor and look for the flashing LED, count the flashes--that'll be the code (there's a short pause inbetween codes).
The Main Relay is located under the dash on the driver side, usually on the left hand side, can be up against the left wall, it's a small black unit with a plug. You need to unscrew it from its mounting bracket first. Change the main relay and it should solve your summertime starting problem.
