Fuel Guage registering improperly!

I installed a new fuel Pump in the gas tank of my 1996 S-10 Pickup.. According to NAPA the pump I purchased is for the X model not the W model. My vin doesn't have a W in the vin but it do have a X in the vin. The tank have approximately a gallon and a half of gasoline in it but the dash gauge registers three quarters full. I put an additional six gallons in the tank and now the guage registers past full! Any suggetsions?

Remove float assembly and reposition it facing the oposite direction. Sometimes the float installation positioning makes a difference on how the fuel gage reads.

Fuel guage does not work on 1986 ford f-150 pickup ?

On a vehicle that old, you will most likely have
to drop the fuel tank & replace the sending unit

I would forget that, not so easy job & the expense
of the part.

I may include a fuel pump you don't need

Check Rock Auto.Com or local parts store NAPA,etc

the fuel sending unit's located on the side of your fuel pump, located inside the fuel tank, you did'nt specify what year, make, moel,or engine size.but the odds are that it's an 80's model or above. if so,then this is you. you can purchase a used fuel pump at a used parts place that will have the sending unit you need. but the question remains? is the used one good. rarely do they go bad,but they do would do well to purchase a new fuel pump, which the fuel sending unit will be new also. just to be sure.but,if your mechanically inclined and can drop the fuel tank yourself, then you may come out cheaper bu purchasing a used fuel pump.there is no fuse for the fuel guage.there is a fuse for the fuel pump, and also a fuel pump relay, but odds are you're fuel pump works or wlse the engine would'nt start.the issue is the fuel level, right? replace the fuel pump, either new,or used and this should repair the issue. the fuel tank will have to be removed to replace the pump, most garages charge according to how much fuels in the tank. a full tank of gas is super heavy,a low tank is light and easily dealt with under the car.suggest you shop around 1st for pricing.thank you very much for choosing and good luck in your repairs!!

My s 10 has stalled a couple of times when the gas tank was reading just under half . I put gas in it and started right up ,could this be the start of fuel pump problems??

Not necessarily the fuel pump itself but the sending unit reading the gas level improperly. The sending unit and fuel pump should be a complete fuel pump module on this vehicle.

Why does the gas guage not register how much gas is in the tank of our 2001 Chevy Impala?

This could be due to a faulty fuel sensor in the fuel tank try draining the fuel tank and replacing the sensor.

89 ford taurus, had to have the fuel pump replaced, now the gas gauge doesn't work. The garage says they didn't cause this. Is that true? (It worked before the repair)

In order to replace the fuel pump the gas tank has to be removed from the car. Both the pump and the gas gage are located in the tank. They probable didn't reconnect the wires going to the gas gage. I guess it is possible that they didn't have anything to do with it and it just happened to go bad while they were working on your car. Not likely but possible.

How to change fuel pump on dodge ram 1500 1998

You have to drop the gas tank just 2 bolts holding the bands. The fuel pump and gas gauge are a single unit which pops right in. Not a bad job at all, just be sure to use some kind of jack on the tank.
NAPA sells the pump/guage unit for about $240.00

Gas guage is not working

If there is gas in the tank and it is not registering correctly, then the sending unit or power to sending unit is bad.

I installed a new fule pump & now my gas gauge is stuck on full. How can i make my fule gauge register correctley

If your fuel pump is an in tank one then you have probably got the float stuck when you put it in the tank.
Let me know if this is the prob.

Fuel guage reads half way and the truck runs out of gas

The float that helps detect fuel level is most likely broken. You or a mechanic will have to remove the fuel pump from the gas tank and check and possibly replace the float. Merry Christmas.
