Look at the top of the headlight assembly. There is a plastic panel on top of the assembly that is held in place by two plastic pins. Remove those pins by lifting the center of the pin and then pull out the pin. Remove the panel. Then you will find two small plastic levers that will lift about 1/2 inch. They do not come out but they will release two studs that secure the assembly. After the assembly is released, slide it forward to access the bulbs you need to replace. Installation is the reverse of these procedures.

Removing low beam bulb on 05 subaruoutback

Whether they become damaged in an accident or simply burn out over time, your Subaru Outback's headlights may eventually need to be replaced. Fortunately, once you've purchased the right replacement bulb for your model year, performing the repair yourself is relatively easy. These instructions only apply to Outback models made after 2000.

  1. Undo the clips on the air intake ducts using a screwdriver and remove the duct from the engine compartment (driver's side bulb removal only.)

  2. 2

Loosen the secured clip on the washer tank with a screwdriver and slide the tank horizontally to allow easier access to the headlight assembly (passenger's side bulb removal only.)

  3. 3

Turn the bulb cover counterclockwise and remove it from the assembly.

  4. 4

Disconnect the headlight electrical connector and undo the assembly retaining spring.

  5. 5

Pull the old bulb directly out of the socket and replace it with the new one. Press the retaining spring back into place and reattach the electrical connector.

  6. 6

Replace the bulb cover, and then turn on the engine. Test the new headlight to make sure it works before replacing the air intake duct or the washer tank and closing the hood.

Can you help me change my headlight assembley? i have a 97 200sx SE

1.) Pop the hood to your Nissan. The headlight assemblies are only accessible from the engine compartment.

2.) Clear the area behind the bulb you are replacing. If you are replacing the passenger side bulb, you will need to remove the radiator overflow bottle. The bottle will unhook from its connective tube by pulling it toward the front of the car and up from the ground. If you are replacing the driver's side bulb, you may need to remove the battery. You will do this by unscrewing the positive (red) and negative (black) terminals that connect the battery to the engine, and then lifting the battery straight out of its housing.
3.) Remove the electrical connection on the back of each headlight assembly. This will be a bundle of wires with a wide plug sticking into the back of the assembly.
4.) Unlatch the plastic clip holding the headlight assembly case in place.
5.) Pry the small metal clip holding the bulb using your fingers or a screwdriver. Be careful not to bend, break or damage the clip or the bulb.
6.) Insert the replacement bulb into the headlight socket and reattach the metal clip that holds the bulb in place.
7.) Relatch the plastic clip holding the headlight assembly case in place.
8.) Reconnect the electrical connection to the back of the headlight assembly.
9.) Replace the radiator overflow bottle or the battery, depending on which bulb you replaced.

Headlights don't work on 99 beetle please help

The bulbs burn out often, being as they are on all the time . You have to pull each head lamp assembly out of the housing in the fender to access the bulb.

You cannot change the bulb as you would on other vehicles. This job is a little difficult for the first time but fortunately there are some good tutorials on line you can read. Google' www.NewBeetle.org' for more info.

Check your fuses first. There are fuses in the end of the dash and you pry off the plastic cover with a small flat blade screwdriver. Panel is not accessible with the doors closed.

The Beetle also likes to burn the fuses in the battery area. There are 30amp 'Green' fuses in a plastic housing above the battery under the hood. Check to see they have not burnt out in their holders.

Look inside the engine compartment at the headlamp side you are needing to replace.
You will see a 1.5" plastic lever extending from headlight assembly.

To remove headlight, push the small black button (is about 1/4" x 1/2" and has cross-hatched stamp in metal) until you can move the lever from the down position to the full up position.

The headlight assembly should release a few centimeters. You should then be able to grab a hold of the headlight assembly and gently twist back and forth until the headlight releases and comes out.

Final step is to unhook the electrical wires by simply pulling the cap from the connection.

Remove black cover from assembly and replace bulb.

When you push the assembly back into the housing you need to make sure the electrical captive socket goes home in to the head lamp fully.

The last fraction of an inch will need a firm push on the lens to get it home.

I hope this helps you.

Passenger side headlight assembly removal, is there more than 2 bolts, if so where

You can replace the headlights on your Crossfire easily by yourself. headlight image by Carbonbrain from Fotolia.com

When a headlight burns out on your Chrysler Crossfire, you do not need to rush to the repair shop to have it replaced. You can access the headlights in your Crossfire from within the engine compartment, allowing you to change the headlight yourself. The Crossfire uses an H7U headlight bulb, which you can find at auto parts retail stores or at a Chrysler dealership.
Difficulty: Easy

  1. 1 Open the hood of your Crossfire to gain access to the headlight assemblies. Press down on the tab on top of the light assembly cover. Remove the cover and set it aside.
  2. 2 Pull the electrical connection free of the bulb socket. Press the spring clamps securing the bulb into the light assembly. Pull the bulb straight out of position.
  3. 3 Insert the new bulb in the same position. Ensure that the spring clamps secure the bulb. Press the electrical connection into place.
  4. 4 Replace the light assembly cover and press it into position until it clicks, securing it in place. Repeat the same process on the opposite headlight if required. Close the hood and test the headlight operation.

How do you remove the headlight bulb

  • Take the keys out of the ignition and switch the headlights off. Then, open the hood using the primary and auxiliary release latches.
  • 2 Use a socket wrench to remove the two 10mm bolts holding the coolant overflow bottle in place. Pull the bottle out of the engine compartment and set it on the ground (passenger's side bulb replacement only.)
  • 3 Undo the bolt at the top of the air filter box, lift the top open and remove the filter from the engine compartment. Then, undo the fasteners holding the air dam in place and remove it from the filter box (driver's side bulb replacement only.)
  • 4 Pull the entire air box out of the car to access the backside of the headlight assembly.
  • 5 Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it from the assembly. Then, release the retaining spring, undo the electrical connector and carefully remove the old bulb from the socket.
  • 6 Hold the new bulb by its plastic base and insert it into the socket. Reattach the electrical connector and replace the retaining spring.
  • 7 Switch the headlights on to test the new bulb. If it works, reinstall the air box or coolant bottle and close the hood

How to replace headlight bulbs. How to access

Locate where the wires go into the headlight on the engine side. You should be able to find the locking collar. Turn it counter clockwise and remove the bulb at this point you should just have to unplug the old bulb and reverse the process to install the new bulb.

I'm having a hard time replacing the driver side headlight. Am I overthinking this?

Why are you trying to change the headlight? Is it broken?
If you are trying to change the bulb, because it is burned out, that is done from the rear of the housing. You have to exercise a bit of care getting the old bulb out and putting the new one in, but is it not difficult. If you are removing the right-side (from the driver's position) bulb, remove the battery (make sure you have your radio anti-theft code if you have one of those radios). Reach behind the headlight assembly, grasp the bulb holder retaining collar, turn it counterclockwise, then pull out the bulb/holder assembly. To remove the bulb from the holder, simply pull it straight out of the holder. Reverse procedure to lock the holder into place.
Removing the headlight housing is somewhat more involved. There are five bolts that hold it in place.

I need to replace the driver's side headlight bulb on my 1999 pontiac sunfire. do i have to remove the battery to get to the bulb?

Unless the engine compartment in your '99 is drastically different from my '96, I disagree. I've changed both of my lamps and the battery didn't have to come out. You just have to take the headlights loose to gain access to the rear of them. The lamp holder just unscrews and pops right out. If nothing else, pick up a Haynes or Chilton manual for your car. It has exacting instructions on how to change the lamp.
For what it's worth, If your headlights are hazed over like many older cars, don't buy the exact factory replacement lamp. It' won't be bright enough. Buy a higher lumen bulb.
