Where are the vacuum hoses for the heater control for 1997 safari

Runs off intake on drivers side of thottle body to passanger side heater box . They get brittle and break by throttle body .

I have an 1996 gmc sierra 1500 truck that when i turn on my heater it come form the front defrost and not out of the vents and i can find the vacuum hoses any where


Hoses should be run from motor through firewall somewhere...also check for vacuum (ball) Usually ball shaped...this ball stores vacuum to help operate vacuum accessories. Also...I've found problems with the control panel itself...partially electrical..and part vacuum...usually several hoses coming from it. I have a 96 Safari...a lot of similarities.

Defrost, heater, vent switch isn't switching the control to a differnt source


There is a small vacuum hose that runs along the front of the throttle body.Usually gets brittle and brakes .This runs to the passenger side of the firewall this goes to the heater box.without vacuum the valve under the dash can not switch.I hope this helps

There are several reasons why your car's heater may be blowing cold air, instead of heat. It is important to understand how the heater works in your car before you can begin to try to diagnose why it is not working. First, there is NOT an electric heater element in the heater system in automobiles, like in portable heaters used in the home. The part that transfers heat into the passenger compartment is called a heater core. A heater core can be thought of as a miniature radiator. The car engine's coolant flows through the heater core while the fan (also called a blower), blows air through the heater core fins. When air blows through the heater core fins, it is warmed, therefore warming the passenger compartment.
Start by checking the coolant. As we already said coolant is what warms the heater core. So if the coolant is low, there may not be a sufficient amount of warmth to transfer heat to the air in the passenger compartment. Since it 's cold outside, low coolant may not effect the operating temperature of the engine significantly, so you won't be alerted to a coolant problem by the temperature gage on the instrument panel. Once the coolant is full, feel the heater hoses that go through the firewall. With the engine at normal operating temperature, BOTH of the heater hoses should be hot to the touch. If only one is hot, this indicates there is is a blockage in the heater core or there is air trapped in the heater core. Using a Lisle coolant funnel is helpful in purging the air from the cooling system. If the coolant is really brown, has been neglected, or if "stop leak" has been used at some point, the heater core could be stopped up. The blockage can sometimes be unstopped by removing the heater hoses and using a garden hose with a sprayer to flush the heater core out. If neither of the hoses are hot to the touch, there could also be a malfunctioning heater control valve, if used on the model you're working on. Check for presence of a heater control valve by following the heater hoses back to the engine. Sometimes, a vacuum line could have a break causing there to be no vacuum to operate the valve. Also it should be noted that if this is your first winter with this car (and you're unfamiliar with the car's repair history), the previous owner could have by-passed the heater core because of a leak. When a heater core leaks, usually they wet the passenger side floorboard. The labor cost to change heater cores is usually expensive, so sometimes people will loop the heater hoses and by-pass a leaking heater core instead of repairing it properly.
Next check for proper airflow. After you're sure the heater core is getting hot water flow, read the following information. Doors within the heater case are either controlled by electric actuators, cables or vacuum motors. Adjust the heat control to both extremes while listening for movement of the blend door. With a cable operated heater door it's easiest to hear the door thump when it closes. If the door is not operating, find the door that controls the airflow across the heater core. If there is an electric motor that controls the door, tapping on it can sometimes make it work temporarily for testing purposes. A vacuum operated motor needs vacuum to work, so using a handheld vacuum pump for testing is usually recommended. If the vacuum motor does not hold vacuum, the diaphragm is leaking requiring replacement. To go deeper into diagnoses of the control head's function and diagnosis, specific vehicle repair manual information is needed. But hopefully the basics laid out in this article has helped to get you started on the right track.

2000 s-10 v-6 nothing in the hearer system works. this happened overnight


If this problem is heat related only, try this. Open the hood and make sure the heater control valve(in-line on the upper heater hose not the radiator hose)on the upper heater hose that goes into the heater core is operating correctly(vacuum line is still connected etc) sometimes they stick from age/ weather conditions. Could be a vacuum leak at the control head, or an actuator under the dashboard. Also check heater fuse at fuse block under dash. Good luck, best regards.

1995 Safari ;How to disconnect rear heater hoses from rear heater from the front source ..All my lines under floor are leaking including vacum control under floor for closing hose line leading to rear...


Under hood at the firewall on passenger side bulkhead should observe a set of heater hoses that run off a tee fitting, jump the Tee with a lenghth of same size hose to jump out the rear, if not locate the rear heater core and jump the heater hoses together at the rear by means of an adjustable fitting and two hose clamps.

Vent selector stuck on defrost (knob turns - no change) 97 gmc safari


There's a good possibilty that you have a vacuum line off. When the heater controls lose vacuum, the heater will go into the defrost mode. There should be a small line, about 1/8 inch in diameter, that goes from the engine to the firewall. It's most likely on the passenger side.

There should be a heater control valve connected in the heater hose line at some point. Make sure the valve still works. Most are controled by vacuum.

A/c comes out of front defroster. I also found a vacuum hose lose near the front firewall and I cant find out where it goes.


I tried to give you a vaccum diagram but the manufacture will not release that info to outsiders. you need to find where the hose goes to.if you loose vac to the controls it goes to defrost mode.

Rear heat or rear air conditoner not workin in my 1997 gmc safari


two different problems !

Rear heater problem: find under the hood where is hose for cooling liquid goes to front heating core!
you will see there also vacuum tubesgoing in to little valve ! disconnect the vaccum tubes ( engine off)
and spray in wd 40 in to the vlave ... valve is stuck and wont open flow to rear heater !

you do not have to replace tha thing . its very well made and because you dont turn this often in summer
it gets stuck. i had same problem. also make sure vacuum is working - Engine running turn rear heater on - vacuum sucks to open valve. and before that make sure fuse is ok .

for rear AC mine does not work either and it is leak on pipes that go from front to rear .. 10 feet of pipes and tubing $$ expensive repair ... forget it ... open the window...

Check under the hood for deteriorated small vacuum hose coming off the intake over to the heater box area.
Repair the vacuum hose.
