High Pitch whine during acceleration

I am hearing a High pitch whine, not a whistle, when I touch the gas pedal to accelerate my vehicle. Was not there before. My engine started to whine when I started my 2005 Chrysler Town and Country and continued to whine upon excelleration. Once the vehicle is warmed up the whining stops. I replaced the serpentine belt and the problem still remains. Any ideas.

Hi Pullerwife,

I have a few suggestions for you,

First of all, check your air filter, make sure its clean, not clogged, and doesn't need to be changed.

I don't know how handy you are, but if you are fairly handy, check the idler pulley bearings, if your not, have a shop check it out, as a last resort.

Power steering pump/fluid being low is also a possibility, but thats usually more of a lower pitched whine then what you describe.

You say once the vehicle is warmed up, the whining stops. Does Weather seem to be a factor as well?

Hope I've helped, and don't forget to rate.

Mine is the same thing. Only once has it happened standing still, but normally about 2 to 5mins after moving off, then it stops. It never happens when I go to the shop, probably because the car is already warmed up. Thanks.

Makes high pitch whistle

Do you have the brakes taken apart once a year,
on all your vehicles, for rust removal, inspection,
needed work & lubing, that is required
Have to flush brake fluid every 2 years, if you
don't want moisture in the system ruining it
Don't know what the noise is,work on the
brakes & then get back to the noise, if it's
still there

My 2007 Land Rover Freelander makes a whistling sound when vehicle is idling. Sound goes away when accelerating or applying petrol?

it may be a turbocharger if so equipted, lots of turbocharged cars whistle as the unit gets older..only other thing I can think of is something with the exhaust system.. get it looked at by putting the car up on a lift and inspecting it..now some cars also whistle thru the radio ..this is called alternator whine and is usually correected by a filter in the power line of the radio...good luck

I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler that has a high pitch SQUEALING sound when I release the accelerator. Any ideas what's causing it or how to fix it?.

I know i have the same problem, and i also noticed than when i open the Hood the whistle just stops, so i figure out it must be some air cycling in or out osmewhere, I found out my air intake connected to throttle body was misplaced a weird gap was left open allowing air to whistle. u might wanna check there

Could be the squeler on the brakes. Does that to let you know it's time for brake job. Have your brakes checked

High pitched electronic/dentist drill sound when accelerating.

Probably the front differential, your probably hearing the famous differential gear whine. Change the oil, put Lucas for gears in it. You can get a hand operated oil pump to **** it out through the dip stick if it has one. Then fill it with the recommended amount.

High Pitch whine during acceleration

well it could be a few things but most likely you belt is sliping. That is very common and happens to all cars over the years if the belt is not changed. You should check it out. The belt could be bad but it could also be a bad pully. If you dont know what these parts are look them up on google. its very simple
