yeah on my 92 olds it has the same problem when idles for a while the temp gauge will rise to about half way between the 100 degree's mark in the middle and the first hash mark but the fan will still kick in and everyting and it usally good until you start driving i will go and make it about a mile then it will just stall with no sputter until it cools for about five minites..our car is a 3.3 litre we are figureing its a computer problem with a sensor because it is obvious and consitant with time so it i firgure it must be some kind of engine saftey feature kicking in when it shoudn't

Fatcat,You didnt mention what engine you have.
When the no start occurs, try holding the gas pedal all the way to the floor, hold it there and try starting the car.
If it still does not attempt to start, disconnect (1) spark plug wire at the coil and have someone try to start the car, you should see and here a "spark" jump and snap.
If spark is present, air inlet to throttle body or carburetor and check for presence of fuel.
Let me know what you find.
Regards,

Stalling

it is possible but don't think this is the issue alot of times this is a sign that the ignition control module is bad. You can have it checked by removing it and taking it to a parts house. To remove disconnect battery unplug module disconnect the coils off of it by unscrewing mounting screws and remove. then remove mounting screws holding module on and take to be tested.

Check the prrimary and secondary resistance on your coil. Also check the resistance of the plug wires and plug gap.
