Back Power Windows on 1999 Pontiac Grand Am Will Not Roll Up

Your Question Hi All! I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am With Power Window Issues? My Grand Am is a great car, does not eat up too much fuel, and only has 105K miles on it. The problem exists with the power windows, specifically the back power windows. A couple of weeks ago they started refusing to go up when I or someone in the backseat hit the "windows up" button. We pulled the window up by hand and tried them again, and same thing occurred. So to sum up, they roll down fine like good little windows, but refuse to roll up, like evil little windows. Since the problem happens to both backseat windows on opposite sides of the car, I'm thinking it might have to do with a wiring problem, maybe at a spliced location a wire has gone bad. The fuse inside the car has been checked and is good. I hope some of you fabulous geniuses out there can help my wife and me solve this, 'cause it's driving us nuts! Any help would be greatly appreciated. One more thing, I'm fairly good at crawling around cars and under engines, and could certainly engage in a do-it-yourself process, but solving the equation is no doubt way above my pay scale. Any help would be most welcome! Thanks!

I have the same problem. Both rear windows go down when the 'down' button is pushed but will not go up when the 'up' button is pushed. I can pull the window up by hand but it slowly slides back down by itself.

Check to see if the power window regulators are burnt out or stripped. Gravity would be able to let the window "drop" into the door, but not raise again. At this age, I suspect they're toast, and I would look there first. Good luck!

Hello, I have a 2003 pontiac grand prix and the driver side window will not roll back up. I just wanted to know is there a problem with the modem or is there something else wrong with it thank you

If it rolled down OK then it is most likely the switch. The reason that it would go down and not up is because more electric current is required to roll it up and thus the 'up' part of the switch will burn out before 'down'. If you replace the switch then it should solve your issue. Power windows are both a blessing and a curse it seems. Hope this helps!

My 1997 Pontiac Grand Am driver side window will not roll up but passenger side works completely

I have a 1999 grand prix and I had this same problem. It was my switch on the drivers side cluster. I bought a whole used cluster on ebay for $25. We tested my motor by applying power to the motor with 12 volts from a battery. a power window motor window has 2 wires. put (+) on one, and (-) on another and one way will take the window up, the other will roll it down.

Driver's window won't roll up all the way

If you have power windows it should be a broken cable, If its manual then it should be the crank asm. or the white plastic trac, it may torn at the end.

The security system made my 1999 grandprix gt not start

There is no way to disconnect the security system on your car but there is a way to reset it. Roll down the drivers side window and close the door. (Stay out of the car, this is why you roll down the window) Reach in and turn the key to the On position. Don't try to start it. Leave the key on for ten minutes. After ten minutes, reach in and turn the key off. Then try to start the car. This usually will reset the security system. I hope this is helpful.
