Question about 1999 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

1998 VW jetta's headlights will not turn on.

Headlights, windshield wipers and blower motor will only come on when the key and ignition are played with. A electrical connector going into the ignition will allow them to work also when it is played with.

2001 Jetta VR6 My heater blower and wipers just quit working, we checked the fuses all looked good. Next day the headlights and blinkers went out. WHAT IS GOING ON?? PLEASE HELP.

I had the same problem except they would all work if I turned the key clockwise a little. I was told by the shop that my ignition switch was going out. I replaced it but now the parking light comes on the dash and I still have to turn the key a little to the right to get the wipers and the headlights on. The blower comes on but the a/c is not cold. If you find a fix please post it. Thanks.

I would suspect you have a defective ignition starter switch, this is the main switch the the ignition key cylinder operates and it powers up the while electrical system,. It is under the steering column covers.

1998 VW Jetta GL . When I Put My Hand Break Down , Brake Light On Dashboard Doesnt Come Off Completly , In That Case HeadLights Wont Come On When HeadLight Swtich Is On .

the emergency brake needs adjusting. the cover around the e-brake should be removed, and behind the e-brake arm should be a cable and tighten the nut on the end of the cable until the slack is removed from the cable. turn nut, then turn key to accessory, then release e-brake , see if the brake light goes off, if not turn off ignition, tighten e-brake nut again, turn key back to accessory release e-brake, see if light goes off. do this until you see e-brake light on dash go out. headlights should come on.

Power to headlights fan and wipers intermitantly cuts out

sounds like it is a lower ignition switch problem. The upper ignition switch is where you insert the key, The lower is an electrical switch that causes this issue. This car probably has air bags, if so, not recommended for an unlicenced technician.

2000 Jetta 2.0 gasoline engine. Multiple electrical problems. headlights will not turn on, only hi beam and only while holding lever up. A/C blower motor, wipers, and turn signals shut off as soon as...

most likely you have a very bad ignition switch, the only other pathway for switched acc. to operate when key is off is if someone has had the wires feeding the fuse box crossed. so unless you had recent wiring done by an amature, you need and ignition switch. after replaceing you may still need to replace some fuses or bulbs that didn't like being powered at the wrong time.
