what kinda fluid did you put in

did you wipe out pan real well before putting it back

never use silicone on pan it could get inside trans

the noise could be comming from torque converter

It's the first stop right off the pump and anything

that gets sucked up by pump thats where it goes

E4od'S are real touchy about there torque converters

and wow they are expensive to replace

    try another fluid flush

if you loosen the return line at the trans cooler (not disconnected)

and allow it to drip into a pan or bucket while adding fresh fluid in dipstick hole you might be able to flush it clear with out disasembly

why did you change fluid /filter in the first place did trans slip or something

It sounds like the filter might not be the right one....
or the pump isnt priming.....

like "diesel mudder" said previously : was yr tranny in bad shape b4 you changed the fluid and screen?

diesels are hard to start if
the crank speed is too slow--- fully charge the batteries
the injector /s /tips need replacing---squirting not atomizing
there is air in the fuel system

I have a 91 f350 7.3 liter idi. It will not start

cranks ok , and fast?
after checking all fuses. (the FSM shows correct fuse)

International Harvester IDI (from Indirect Injection) engine is a 4-stroke 8-cylinder Diesel engine used in International Harvester trucks,
like all diesels check fuel filters first. (service)
then make sure glow plugs work. (fsm covers this)
then scan it EFI for DTC errors. got errors?
direct injection uses EFI.

IF DIY, you need the book, I promise.....
its not simple like old diesels were.

Wont start back after refueling?

your not mentioning if this is gas or diesel allthough im hoping it's a diesel being a f350 (gas is not so practical at this size truck)
anyway if it's a diesel and you have a hot hard to start problem it's most surely your injectors getting stuck open and draining off your fuel pressure it only takes one stuck open to drain off all pressure but a 91 should have em all replaced at same time any good diesel mechanic would know how to confirm this with a few simple tests

How do I know if my F350 diesel needs a tuneup? The motor is loosing power and sometimes I have trouble getting it to start.

HI, a diesel doesn't really require a tune it has no spark plugs or ignition components to replace. there are maintenance items that you should be doing such as filters make sure you don't have water in your fuel also.

Ford F350 Diesel was running for past 3 hours and now stalled

check your filters and fuel filter.. if they need to be replaced then do so.. then check your fuel pump.. a mechanic can tell you if you need to replace that or not... and check your starter, alternator, and battery cables

Has he changed the fluid? this might be all thats needed also can get some good additives these days to help sticking valves in transmission and not too expensive either (approx £30... $50 ?) which for the sake of this small outlay is worth the risk.
