SOURCE: 1998 mercury mystique will not drive in D but will

that is and straight forward system where you have a linkage from shifter to transmission and if it goes and 2 and not i drive then you may have a selector issue where it is out of adjustment! but for me to tell you i have to know if the car shifts through all the gears? if it does then that is most likely your problem if it doesn't shift properly the you have internal transmission failure and have to take it to the shop! hoper that helps and good luck

The vehicles, mechanically, are virtually identical. as long as the motor specs match then you can swap,if they don't then you'll neeed the tranny as well.

Hard shifting transmission

Move your Mercury on a flat level surface.
Warm up the car for 10 minutes.
Check the ATF level in park.

If the ATF is over 2 years old then you should do a filter and fluid change,
