Re: my dash bored went out
The chances of you blowing any of the big fuses(relays) is pretty slim but you will not be able to check them as such, your best bet is to go to breakers yard and get set of second hand ones in and checking them one at a time. if there was a big flash or bang whilst fitting stereo then you might have broken wiring loom.
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Do NOT Cut and Splice. Your local parts store sells an aftermarket radio plug in which connects to your factory harness and then you can splice in your radio into the new connectors ends that are labeled for what they go to.
You have all the fuse locations. I have seen some that after radio was put in did that. usually it turns out that re-grounding the dash or using different power supplies for the radio has corrected it. otherwise, I'd check the light switch and make sure it's OK.
You can find the code for your specific radio in one of two places. It will be printed in the glove box on a sticker or it will be on one of the arms of the trunk (either on a sticker or stamped in). I would think yours would be in the trunk but check both places. Thanks for a positive rating and please let me know if you have any further questions you consider giving a bad rating. Thanks for using FixYa!
this got easy after a while 2 ways, i had friends who would not take the time to spend 8dollars to buy a harness connector for a new cd player and would splice everything together like takeing the red and yellow wires and connecting them all together as one. this drains ur battery unless ur cd player can completly power down by the power button not all do... but keep this in mind on GM cars the 2 wires of the same wires like purple the one with a black stripe is ground they go together stripe on stripe also there is 2 extra wires one is ORANGE and BROWN u dont need these dont even mess with them even if u have a connector block them off THESE TWO COLORS IS FOR FACTORY STEREO IF SO THESE WIRES CAN AND WILL MAKE IT SO U DONT HAVE DASH LIGHTS so always buy a connector ond dont mess with these wires block them off and dont ground them out.
The door buzzer chime is on the fuse box cover over the clutch/brake pedal. Trust me, you will enjoy not having it, i removed mine. As far as the radio...on my contour, there is a inline dash amplifier beneath the dash. If you have an aftermarket radio, i would pull the radio out and check the connections. A Haynes Manual #36006 has proven to be very useful with the wiring schematics. Good luck..98contourSVT
