The coolant is full everything seems fine when i drive it doesn't get hot...but when i'm stuck in traffic and idle for let's say 4 minutes later my car starts to get hot...but when i start moving and driving it cools down....why?

Your Thermostat has failed and needs to be replaced. Also, check to see if your fans turn on. If they don't then you need to see what the deal is with that. That could be a relay problem or it failed completely. That is why when you are stopped the car gets hot and then when you start to move again it cools down. So, I will provide you information on replacing the Thermostat on your 2003 Buick Century.

first check coolant level in radiator coolant level sound low.if coolant overflow jug empty.coolant sysyem low, when add coolant to coolant overflow jug coolant level should stay at full cold mark.if coolant level okay,engine overheat while sitting or moving in slow traffic either coolant fan relay or fuse could be bad.or engine coolant temperature sensor could be bad. coolant sensor turn on cooling fan at certain temperature.hot wire check to make sure cooling fan motor not bad or short in wires.if all is good have pcm check it controls fan relay to through the coolant temperature sensor signal when coolant get hot.
check coolant level could be too low allowing air in the cooling system causing air pocket in engine around the engine coolant sensor.coolant sensor needs to be in hot coolant so it will cause the cooling fan to come on at a set temperature.make sure coolant correct level and the coolant level in the cooling overflow jug should be at full cold mark.the cooling overflow jug should never be empty,if you see empty cooling overflow jug air got in the cooling system so make sure when engine cold every time raise hood make sure cooling overflow jug coolant level at full cold mark.if jug stay empty you have cooling leak.so replace radiator cap,if coolant level all good,i would replace the engine coolant temperature and thermostat.when your car come to a long stop or driving along long line of slow moving traffic the engine coolant blower motor should running if not have vechicle code scan for faulty coolant fan motor control module.or ecm problems.

Your electric fan for the radiator is not working. When sitting in traffic you will need the fan for air flow which cools the radiator and air conditioning condensor. When driving fan is not needed do to air flow from driving.
One thing to consider is your thermostat and water pump. If somehow, your thermostat is stuck open, your engine won't get up to temperature. Also, a bad waterpump won't move coolant thru the heater core. Both of these situations should show up on your engine temperature, making it hot or cold...but sometimes they don't show up if your driving pattern doesn't tax the engine..My daughter's car had a bad electric cooling fan , and never was a problem, unless she was stuck in traffic...
This sounds normal to me..... Except "runs to hot when idling"
When you're driving about (airflow over rad) all seems fine, but when sat in traffic idling - the fans come on to cool. Is the problem that even with the fans running, temperature still goes up - and fans never turn off again?
Is this the problem?
If it is, then the coolant pump may be badly corroded, not driving efficiently, or the coolant needs flushing and replacing.
