Question about 2001 Dodge Caravan

Horn works intermittently

The horn on my 2001 Dogde Grand Canyon works intermittently. Should I suspect a short somewhere or maybe a defective horn relay or ???? What do you suspect? Where do I begin?
Is this a common problem for this van (that has 150K miles)?
Thank you

I was told by the dealer that the horn pad needs to be replaced to the tune of $475. I'm looking for info on how to get a manual or diagram on how it goes together. There are 2 bolts on the underside of the wheel - I assume this is where to start, but don't want the airbag going off.

I would think this would be caused bu a defective rorating contact under the sterering wheel, 99% of time that is the problem.

I have a 2004 grand cherokee jeep limited edition the back window was broken into, and maybe they tried to do somehting to shut down the alarm system, (we dont know)..battery had to be...

Continued blowing of fuses will normally indicate one of two things first is that a component/device is faulty ando second is that there is a short or intermittent short in the circuit(s) while I am not familiar with jeeps I find it unlikely however that both the blinkers and ac fan have the same circuit/fuse but it is possible they are shorting each other somewhere in or under the main console

The horn beeps once softly after a few seconds of getting in or out of my car

If asociated with door slap, must be a loose/worn wire, close to the horn, touching the car chasis, also hunk on driving over a bad street (as it gets shaked).Need to ceck the wires. If asociated with steering, bad wiring under the steerwheel cap.If asociated with car up/down as u get in/out,bad wiring somewhere (best guess near suspension).Or maybe is factory funny alarm stuff..Very paranormal :)I would start by checking the hunk itself and the switch (bad spring under the main link).

Motor turns over but will not crank. Had a main power fuse replaced 4 days ago, cranked and ran fine. Now it does the same thing again? 2001 Pontiac Grande Am

Fuses are installed in cars to prevent fires. Somewhere in the system too much power is flowing causing the fuse to blow. A wire shorting out to ground can cause this or a load somewhere may be intermittently shorting out. My suggestion is to buy a package of the right rating fuses and keep it in the vehicle ready to install. Get an appointment with a reputable repair facility to do diagnostics to search what might cause this fuse to blow.

I hope this helps.

Horn going off on its own. had to disable battery to make it stop.

There's a short to ground somewhere in the horn circuit.
It's either at the horn, or at the horn switch in the steering wheel, or the wiring between, maybe at the horn relay if so equipped

Horn doesn't work - just had new battery installed. Could they not have replaced connection?

no. a horn will not be directly associated with a battery, if so you would have other components within the car that were not working.
I would suspect a horn problem itself or one of the electrical components

No crank

shorting to start motor will allow the motor to turn but the ignition system is still off.
try with key turned to ignition position.
suspect starter solenoid on starter motor.
suspect fuses maybe there is a fuse which has blown.
suspect ignition key switch maybe defective.

Car Information

There would only be three (3) possibilities for a continuous blowing of horn:
1. defective/shorted horn relay ( very unlikely);
2. defective/shorted horn switch (very likely); and/or
3. shorted/grounded wiring (likely).

The horn switch is the contact switch normally embedded into the steering wheel.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
