Possible blown head gasket...sounds like it, remove the spark plugs and do a compression test, sometimes you will find water coming out of the spark plug hole with a blown head gasket, pull the plugs and turn the engine over, with the radiator full of water, if water starts spitting out of any of the spark plug's a cracked head, or blown head gasket.

White smoke but not over heating

you could have a pin hole in the rubber pipes. or gasket blown. as for cold air that can be a blocked internal rad for the heater or the switching for the diverted is not working. if you losing a lot of water or just a bit it will give off white smoke also known as steam. check were it is coming from get engine up to running temp and wiggle pipes about faveret place for a pipe to go is the top rad pipe.

My mpv is overheating and not pttin out any heat in the cab. I replaced the stat and the problem remains...what is the solution to this...btw, the h2o pump isn't leaking either..

Are there clogs in the system that may be fixed by flushing and filling with coolant?

Do both tubes leading to the heater core get hot when the engine is hot?

If not, then the heater core is plugged up.

Otherwise, if the two tubes are hot leading to the heater core, the blend door is not opening.

Also, is the radiator's cooling fan operating when it gets hot?

These are a few questions to ask.

Good luck on this repair.

On colder days (or when it's raining) car starts

Smoke is never a good thing and it can be coming from an electrical connection that is not solid any more. I would 'grope' the wiring under the dashboard to see if you find anything exhibiting heat. If your primary fuse box is inside the car, open and inspect it to make sure there are no scorched or obviously melted fuse or fuse holders.
The rough running under the described conditions kind of points to a problem with moisture. On a dry evening, park in a dark area, pop the hood and with the engine at an idle, look for sparks where none should be. The common factory ignition wiring can start to leak after years of heat and cold. The insulation value of it sinks and it may even develop visible cracks. When it is moist, this can easily cause misfires.

Ac and heater both coming on just taking turns.

If this just started to fault after battery replace, I would suspect a vacuum hose or outside air temp sensor got unhooked or damaged under the hood. A scanner could help diagnose issue if nothing obvious is found to have been disturbed under the hood during batery replace.Good luck!

My heat is not working in my 99 mercury cougar

Check your engine coolant level, if it is low top it off, remember only add coolant to the recovery tank and never to a hot engine, if it is low have the system checked for leaks.
