98 Sentra, replacing the driver side power window switch

How do you replace the driver side power window switch by yourself. The window still goes down but won't return up, I think the button has disconnected.

The switches are very easy to change. They either have a screw holding the switch and a trim piece on or they switch just pops out. Once its off, they are a breeze to change.

I'm having the same problem. The window is stuck down now (this was an issue in the winter months but seemed to have corrected itself through the spring but now it's back again). Until today, if it was stuck down I was able to give a little pull and then it would come up, but I don't even think any power is getting to it. Can you please walk me through what I'd need to do, from step 1, to replace the switch myself? Do I need to take the door apart or can I just start with the screw in the base of the (what I call) little change holder on the door? Any help would be appreciated.

Look for broken wires in the driver's door opening. If you don't find any, you will need a test light or voltmeter to check for power at the driver's door master switch. For any electrical testing problem, you really need a voltmeter. You can check for power to the master switch on one single wire, with key ON. You can also use the multi-meter to check the ground for the power windows right at the master switch.

Most likely bad window switch or broken wire in the driver's door hinge area. ALL window wiring goes through the master switch. Since master switch gets most use and that door opens and closes the most, the switch and wires are the first place you look when you get this kind of window behavior.

I had the same problem with my 98 regal. I replaced a wiring harness on the steering column that has heavy gadge wires coming from the fire wall and going to a small black box directly below the ignition switch.Since I replaced it I have not had any problems

The drivers side window stoped working on my 2004 silverado the passenger side works fine

Try the fuse. The switch may be faulty so check by removing the inner door panel and connecting a 12v battery via two wires to the motor that winds the window up and down. If it goes up and down it's probably the switch which may just need a clean on the terminals.

Passenger Window Stuck all the way Down

Try switching the power window switch from the passenger side to the drivers side. Before you do that try with the switch on the up position, wiggle it from side to side. The contacts may be worn and by wiggling it may make contact. Other then that try to park it in side or garbage bag taped to keep rain out till you get it to the shop.
Hint, take it to a Auto window repair shop to replace the switch if it's bad or if the motor is bad. They have more experience to removing the door panels and removing the power window regulator (motor) if that needs to be replaced.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Power door locks and windows

The answer to your question is maybe. Get a couple of switches from a junkyard (my guy gets $5.00 each) and try them. Here's why: I have no less than five different wiring diagrams, and none of them make any sense at all (been doing this stuff a really long time) I keep a good switch handy to check my jeeps when one gets wierd on me...even so, my 93 passenger window works with the key off, none of the others do. Stopped trying to figure it out a long time ago, but would really like to meet the guy who designed this stuff!
