You may have a problem with a blocked fuel fuel filter. When there is crud from the gas tank being picked up (sometimes after filling up with gas that has ethanol in it, which loosens any crud), it blocks the fule filter. Then, when the engine starves momentarily, the crud drops away and the gas gets thru again. Then it repeats the cycle. Put a new filter in it & the problem may go away.

I have a 2000 sportage that seemed to starve for fuel at anything above 2000 rpm and it had terrible acceleration. After looking in many forums and finding endless solutions that didn't work I finally figured it out. I was getting misfire codes due to the starvation and if I backed off the gas for a little it would quit trying to die until the next time I tried to accelerate. I replaced the fuel filter and pulled connectors apart and cleaned them. I checked coils and replaced plugs. I cleaned the maf sensor and replaced the fuel pressure regulator. I replaced both lines to the gas tank. I fixed bad grounds at the fuel tank. I replaced both relays under the hood. Nothing seemed to work although everything I did made it run a little better. It already had a replacement gas tank so that wasn't an issue. I had what I thought was good fuel pressure too. The issue was fuel volume. The sock on the bottom of the fuel pump was gunked up. It can be replaced for around $15.00 or cleaned if you're cheap. This restored the volume of fuel allowed to get to the engine and fixed the problem. Like I said before, I had good fuel pressure but no volume behind it. The vehicle would starve as I was trying to accelerate. It ran good at idle. Just something to think about before you replace the pump or sensors.

Wont go uphill

1. Low fuel pressure. Check pressure and replace pump/filter as needed.
2. You are "pinging". Use premium gas, check ignition timing and have mechanic remove carbon build-up from cylinders.
