I just took it to the shop and had an oil change and a complete tune up
i drove it home from the garage fine, then later that day i headed down the road when suddenly the rpms went up and it was as if i had put it in neutral
...i pulled off the road shut the car off and waited a few mins. started it again and it went into gear and worked fine again for about a min...now this is what happens everytime i restart the car....what in the world is the matter?
As the commenter said, check if the tranny fluid is full. A clear pink or red is best, a dirty brown or cloudy color is probably trouble. It's a '93- it is 24 years old, everything wears out eventually. I'm as old as the hills myself, and I can't run anymore. Start looking for a replacement transmission, or have a transmission shop diagnose it. Unless you are attached to the car, don't let them talk you into a new transmission-the cost may be more than the car is worth. You might want a used unit- try to get ANY kind of warranty-even 30 days is better than nothing. If it lasts beyond 30 days without a problem, it might go another 24 years---pshaw! not really.
Your best investment is a Haynes Repair Manual, either from your local Auto Zone or similiar retailer or online: http://www.haynes.com/products/searchType/vehicleApplicationSearch2/searchEnd/yes/sfID1//sfID2//sfID3//year/1997/make/Honda/model/Accord/x/20/y/3/productID/193. Step by step instructions on troubleshooting, repair or replacement, based on a complete teardown and rebuild.

Honda has a long history of ignition distributor issues, heat play a major role in these delecate components, in older vehicles they get hot and the circuitry inside failes and after a wait period the vehicle will start again this happens to many cars, nissan, older Gm ,ford, Replacing the distributor has solved this problem for many honda owners and I believe you e also having this very same problem.

I am having the same problem; I cannot find a 93 Prelude sunroof. But the answer is no you can't use any other year of sunroof on ours. Just about everything else but the roof will fit. Hope this helped.
SOURCE: rising and falling idle
Hey, first i would check all of your vacuum hoses. Over time they can crack and leak and that can create the problem, then the computer compensates to correct it. The throttle position sensor could also be a possibility and in combination with a vac leak, can create a wide variety of symptoms that are difficult to separate and trace down. Get a can of carb cleaner with the little spray straw, start the engine and let it idle to warm up. Spray a little on each vac connector, around the base of each injector or the throttle body, and see if the rpms run up. If so, you may have found a leak that needs tightening down. Vacuum hoses can sometimes just have the split end cut off and reconnected. The hard plastic spaghetti lines may be so brittle they need to be completely replaced. Manifold and throttle body bolts can be tightened up, but occasionally the gasket may need replacing. I would start with that and see what it does for you. Let me know if I can be of any more assistance.
