Question about 1997 Nissan Pickup

1997 Nissan pickup truck started sputtering and wants to die...

This problem is very sporadic and occurs when I start my engine. When I start my engine it seems like it want to die or cut off. To combat that, I would riv the trottle, while in neutrel and the engine would shake, sputter and want to die. While in drive, first and second gear would start sputtering and want to die, but as I get up to speed it seems to be ok. This will happen in the morning before work. Later in the day, the car would go back to normal. This last time the check engine appear and then went away. This issue has happened twice, months in between. Please advise....

is the engine lite on? if a misfire shows, and the plugs are new, could be coil or wires. how does it idle? maybe air leak between mass air flow sensor and throttlebody.

You have an engine misfire....unless you have expertise in this area you need to see your local shop as you will damage your catalytic converter if you continue to drive. An OBD II scan tool will id the cylinder to help but knowledge here is key!!

it sounds to me that you are loosing sparl on one of your cylinders. have you pulled the spark plugs and compared the plugs?

Sputters and dies on cold start, significant drop in gas mileage.


You need to rebuild the carburetor or clean the choke linkage and make sure the choke valve closes cold.

My 1997 nissan pickup 2.4 starts, idles nice , but when I accelerate to 2000 rpm it sputters and starts to die, I let off of it runs again , also no power. what could be the problem?


bad fuel pump or filter, bd spark plugs, bad coils. check the fuel pressure, check to see if th plugs are black r a brownish color if ther ar black then replace them. get a vol tester and test your coils.

My 1997 Nissan 4x4 pickup 2.4L 4 cyl manual transmission KA24E Engine cuts out when it warms up and dies at intersections. I have replaced the front O2 sensor which helped for two days but it is acting up...


this could be caused by several different things.check E.G.R.vave to make sure its not sticking.Check fuel system,start with testing fuel pressure then filter and pump check every vacuum line carefully to make sure there is no cracks or leaks.I assume your computer is not setting a code so that could possibly eliminate your MAF sensor.Let me know whats up and I will check back with you.If this does not work I have more answers.

1984 Nissan 720 4x4 starts fine but runs rich, misses, sputters. New distributor, plugs, wires, cleaned fuel tank.


check pvc and check for air leaks around intake and carb gasket use a little carb cleaner if engine sputters while spraying u have a leak

i have had the same problem and it was my mass air flow sensor. and dont by the whole kit from the deal cause it was like 500 buck and you can order one from ebay for like 70

1997 S10 pickup starts then shuts off in 2-4 seconds


when its in that not running stage or it dies you need to try and shoot a little starting fluid or gasoline into the throttle body or air cleaner and try and start it again .. If it starts then we know you have a fuel pump going out .. and its in the gas tank .. thanks Jerry and holler if you need more..

bad wiring harnes or someone i know had the same problem, your computer should be on the fire wall, water likes to run under the hood and down the fire wall, check the plug on the computer for wetness or ice, what ever the case my be.
