Question about 2004 Ford Freestar

1 Answer

How do you remove the rear tail light lens on a 2004 Ford Freestar. I took out the two screws at the top but it still seems to have resistance when attempting to pull it off. Is it possible more clips are involved or does it have to be accessed from inside somehow?

There are some clips that hold it in place. Just pull it straight to the rear to pop it out.

Open the rear hatch. In the jam you will see two plugs to remove. Pull the center out, then pull the plug. Then pull straight back on the lens. It snaps in towards the front of the lens.

How do I change tail light bulb

I think that there are two screws inside the back of the van. when these are removed you pull back, it might look like a hinge but I believe you just pull it straight back and then you can get at the light bulb

Access to the tail light lens should be through panels in the rear corners of the vehicle. Remove the panel and you can remove the tail light cluster and the fasteners that attach the lens to the body work. This is the position on most sedans, unless, like on pick-ups, the tail light lenses have screws which allow the lenses to be from the outside.

How to change a tail light

1. Remove the two screws at the outside back of the tail light cover
2. loosen the tail light cover from the two clips at the front of the cover by gently prying it toward the rear. Fingernails worked for me. The bottom clip seemed easier. If it is too tight, try a screwdriver near the bottom, then near the top prying toward the rear of the car.
3. the top light is the backup lamp (white), and the bottom light is the brake/turn/rear light (red).
4. rotate the lamp 1/3 turn to remove and replace.
5. test.
6. replace the cover by aligning the screw holes then pushing the cover into the clips and replacing the screws.

Replace rear tail light

I can't remember for sure with your model, but you'll have to open the trunk and you may see screws right next to the light housing, or the screws will be hidden behind the carpet trim inside the trunk just behind the housing...

Freestar 2004 rear brake light won't go off. Bulb

I'm assuming all of the brake lights are on? If so there is a brake light switch located way up under the dash that hits on the arm for your brake pedal. If this is not "closed" when the pedal is up (not depressed), your brake lights will stay on. It is adjustable.

thode screws hold the lens or the light assembly? Allow for the whole tail light to come out and the bulb plug will be accessible. I never had the privilage. But how the lens fits will tell you. If the lens goes overthe edges, the whole unit comes out, lens is sealed. Good luck
