1998 Honda Accord Sunroof wont close all the way

My 1998 Accord has no problems opening.

When I go to close it, it doesnt shut all the way. Remains 1/2 - 1 Inch open.

I have checked for rocks in the track, nothing there.

Thanks.

I have the same problem. Did you replace the gears? Or was it something else. If it was the gears what did you have to do to get to them?

My 1999 accord just started this too. It closes all the way except the last inch or so. Can you manually close it using the adjustment in the roof?

I took mine in expecting to have it repaired and it turns out that it was just the screws along the left and right-hand side of the panel.  They were loose.  The guy told me that "it eventually happens" and that "it's only a matter of time".  He went on to say that "it shouldn't happen again".  So, check the screws on either side of the panel right where it's stopping.  I suspect that this is prohibiting yours from closing as well.

Problem is really the cast zinc "locks" on the sides of the sunroof rails. The screws loosen and allow these locks to pivot and then block the sunroof from completely closing. To fix this and prevent the re-occurrence:

    1.With the sunroof completely open.
2.Remove the screws clean the first 4 threads completely clean with alcohol
3.Put some nail polish (or red thread locker if you have it) on those now clean threads.
4.Position the locks in place, insert and tighten the screws. If it is a crisis just push the locks to their correct position and thread the screws as far as you can with whatever you have, fingers will usually get them in far enough to allow the window to close.

Sunroofs are gear driven and most likely your gear drive is worn at the beginning of it so it stalls you'll need to replace it through the dealer or recycling place try these guys.

1998 golf gti vr6 power sunroof doesn't close when i turn key at the door

Check your wires and fuses, I am having a similar problem myself as the windows open, but not the sunroof and this is a feature that VW had on most of these models with power locks, even my 96 Gti did it. I will repost with what fixed it ASAP.

My 05 honda accord sun roof wont open

Hi,

The sunroof on your Honda may not be operating correctly. The most common problems with Honda's sunroofs is the track. This is especially true of early 1990s Honda vehicles. However, many Hondas use a recessed track that easily collects and traps dirt and debris. When this happens, your sunroof may not close and seal properly. Another minor problem is a blown fuse on some model years of Honda vehicles. Before fixing anything, however, troubleshoot the problem.
  1. Open the fuse panel. Turn the knob on the fuse panel cover counterclockwise or push in on the release tabs on the fuse panel cover (depending on the year of your Honda), and pull down on the fuse panel cover.
  2. Pull the fuse for the sunroof out of the fuse panel using the fuse pullers in the fuse panel. Use the diagram on the underside of the fuse panel cover if you are having trouble locating the fuse for the sunroof.
  3. Check the metal strip in the middle of the fuse. The strip should not be burned or damaged. If it is, replace it with a fuse of the same amperage.
  4. Check the recessed track of your sunroof. Clear away any debris that may be stuck in the sunroof's track. Use engine degreaser and a wire brush to clean the track of dirt. Then, wipe the track down with clean paper towels.
  5. Apply hard grease to the sunroof wheels and track so that the sunroof can move easily once again.
Best regards.
